Maybe maybe not, do a pressure check on it first, things expand under heat and a head gasket may have leaked, might be ok now I've had that happen before!.. |
I'm going to do everything I can before I commit to a replacement engine.
Bimmers are notorious for cracking heads when they overheat.  Some people say you can repair the cracks, others say you can't... still other say you can't change the head without running the risk of pulling the headbolt threads out of the block... yet others say that isn't a biggy, put Time-serts in the block and you are good to go...
I dunno... there are more conflicting opinions then on a boating forum... |
Yes they are notorious for that, but you never know??.. Any head can be repaired, the key there is to find someone that "knows WTF they are doing" that's the hard part!.. As far as stripping head bolt holes, no worse than Chevys I've put inserts in a whole block before, then they are better than new!.. |
I hear that...
I'm suprised that BMW uses a Torque-to-yeild head bolt directly into an aluminium block without any kind of insert.
I would like to find the efficiency expert that decided, decades ago, that it was better to start using plastic parts instead of metal... and beat him about the head with a box end wrench. A dog doesn't care if you're rich or poor, educated or illiterate, clever or dull. Give him your heart and he will give you his.
