It's been horrific.

Ã‚Â I hate fire.

Every night I've watched the fire marching up the south face to Mt Wilson...and every night the fire has stalled. Ã‚Â Today I didn't see any active flames on the south side, but I just went out and checked and it's moving up the mountain again. Ã‚Â It also looks like there's a good sized flare up very low down, but I've got trees blocking that view and it's hard to get any perspective. Ã‚Â I'm tempted to get in my car and drive up a block or two to get a better viewpoint.

Here are some pics from Sunday..the smoke plume and the pyrocumulus cloud that formed:

And today I came home to a welcome sight...the Martin Mars flying over, preparing for it's run on the Observatory:

I know it seems harsh, but if you've ever held a firefighter in your arms as he sobbed uncontrollably over the loss of his fellow station members, or as a child watched a wildfire race down the mountain toward your house as firemen desperately tried to get you to safety and save your home, you'd understand my rage and sadness. Those are two memories that time will never erase. I was born and raised in the SGV. This fire threatened, damaged or destroyed many areas that were special to me, so I admit I take it very personally.
