I just read that Coach-Net will be closing their operations in Lake Havasu and moving about 170 jobs to Texas.  This is right after the news that Mission Cleaners was closing their operations resulting in the loss of 100 jobs.

Will these two events have a major impact on Havasu?  

I really like Lake Havasu but I've been reluctant to move there because it seems like there's not too many employment opportunities.

Mission is already closed and 200 jobs were lost. City said in the paper that it would effect there budget in a huge way as they where the number 1 user of water and sewer in the city. More big rate increases on the way I'm sure. Why would Coach-Net move 170 to Texas, the work there doing is in Havi, unless they plan on shipping the laundry too. Also hard to believe Coach-Net has 170 openings in Texas too. :eek
#1 company closing should be a huge boost in business for the #2 company and yet they're closing too.

Its all because of SB 1070 :D AZ is going to be a Ghost Town :alien

It sucks to lose local business and it slowly screws everybody over. When I drive around Southern AZ it is scary how many empty buildings are out there. And all those people used to spend money and provide people money to spend.

With just the 2 companies above, that's 370 people more that won't be buying groceries or anything else in Havi. These 370 people will likely cause even more companies to go under.  Somebody should really tell Osama that his Trickle down isn't working out to well. :eek

That's 1% of the city population that lost jobs. I would bet that it's a lot higher percentage of the total work force in Havi. I would also just guess that many of these 370 have families. Of course if the city raises the Water rates yet again, 100% of the population will be effected.

Did a bit of "research" last night. Employees that lost there jobs are saying Mission employed 500 workers total and the City is now saying they only employed 100. Perhaps the SB1070 did have something to do with this. :stupid

No reason for anyone to become defensive.  Just look at the lost value of our boats, houses, cars.  Less boats on the water, less trailer rentals in the RV parks.  Less money because we simply do not have as much.  But this recession is over.

I feel bad for the employees at Coach-Net who own a home with negetive equity in Havasu.  

Is it better to sell their home at a loss and follow their employer to Texas or does it make more sense to stay in Havasu knowing that eventually the real estate market will get better?

Concerning Mission, it's interesting to hear they employed far more people than the 100 reported by the local newspaper.  When I first read that story I got the impression there was some "spin-doctoring" by the City Manager who suggested that all the laid off employees had already found jobs.  

Concerning the local newspaper, there were comments from two people suggesting that Sterlite may pull out of Havasu next year.  Hopefully that's not true.  (I always take the comments I read in the newspaper with a HUGE grain of salt...)

To be clear, I'm not wishing any ill-will for Havasu, I'm just trying to guage what the employment and real estate market might look like in the future.

There's not many "real jobs" in Havasu, IMO.  Pretty much min wage, tourist services, or SBO's.  Construction is non-existent.  You have to be multi-talented just to survive.

Real Estate is has come back (down) to where is should be...that town was way, way overpriced and RE's peeps made a boat-load of $$$.  The run-up impacted the whole area, including Laughlin/Bullhead, and alot of new homeowners went under quickly when the economy to a dive.  There's some good deals out there if you shop, unless the cash investors get there first.

It's a tourist/retirement town that happens to be located next to a boating lake...something that City Gov, at times, fails to fully acknowledge(boaters) for their fiscal contributions.  I think Havi will survive...as long as the snowbirds continue to come back in the winter.

Last time I checked, Obama's Momma didn't do a lot of boating on Havasu...so he will give his rat's ass to Chicago or someplace else HE wants the money to go.

Now that ACORN can't get so much (publicly) he'll have to find another way to put his cronies on the dole.  :pissed

Obama's position with the Oil Industry and Coal Plants has just begun.  I simply cannot imagine what will happen with the boating industry.  One would ask how could it get much worse?

But it can, and it will.  

And then some of BP's games have been playing right into his (Obama's) hand for change.  We knew something was up when they let the Lockerbie bomber was released from prison.  Now look who is getting some new drilling rights after negotiating a deal for his release.  BP!

City charges me to remove my perfectly operating septic to get hooked to sewer....now they charge me for water coming and going. What a sham.
