Hey guys!

I don't know if I mentioned it or not, but I'm getting back into ham radio. It's been around a year now. My call sign is K5HDF.

I've been doing local communications for 30 years which has been up to 100 miles or so. Â Advancements in the hobby with linking repeaters has pushed that up to around 700 miles.

The latest has been playing in the HF bands, which open up the whole world. I've made contacts to 15 countries in the last month. Here's my latest contacts:

I never did get into ham. Like most I did a lot of CB crap in the 70's and early 80's. CE has radios, but not sure what he has.

I was on CB, too, back in the day. I met a lot of people with it. CB is dead in Corpus though. On very few occasions, I heard truck drivers speaking in Spanish. I got my ham license in 1990 but really never got into it. Fast forward to living in a hurricane corridor and losing cell and internet service on multiple occasions, I got back into it. I have a few radios for local communications and 1 for extreme distances. I can send email through the radio as many miles away as I need to reach the internet. I can RF to text message and vice versa as well. There are a lot of preppers around here. They mostly stockpile guns and ammo but no one really has a communication plan.
