Going though my photos tonight, I came across this one. At Champman and Yorba St. a huge tree fell and landed and smashed this car at the Vons supermarket. Big winds that day was the cause of the 100 year old tree coming down. Must have been a couple of years ago when I took this photo.

There's a story about this tree falling over too. I was planted long ago before that area was developed.  While I worked for Lucky Stores, they ran a supermarket on that property.  They wanted to expand the store, but the tree was in the way. The tree made it to some sort of historic tree list which prevented it from being cut down. The amount for the insurance policy to cover the moving of the tree was too much for them so they didn't renew the lease on the building.  Ralph's moved in and moved the tree a few dozen yards to build a bigger store.  They tree was heavily guyed, but it fell over anyway during a Santa Ana wind. :eek

I remember them moving the tree. We used to go to the BMX track at that time, which was down the street from there. I did not know it fell over but I did wonder what happend to it the last time I was in the area. Interesting news to come from a guy in AZ.

yeah used to live there right at Palmira and Yorba there at the four way stop. when I heard about the tree falling I hauled ass over there to take photos of the tree then seeing the tree had fallen on a car also.
