This is the stuff I was telling you about. Wal-Mart used to own Merit Trucking and their sole purpose was delivering groceries to the Supercenters.

Wal*Mart sold Merit to Swift and has them on a tentative 2 year contract to continue delivering the groceries.

The don't get Wal*Mart driver pay, they get the Swift big bucks. :rotflmao

C'mon now, I was thinking about driving as my next career change.  Seems easy enough and you don't have to have any education for it.  Swift would be easy to get on with....... :D  :laugh

Ok, so that's a last resort.  I did send in a Resume' to Arco Arena yesterday, they're looking for an experienced computer tech/Network Engineer.  Pay sucks though.

If I can't find a job that I can do making the right amount of $$, maybe I will drive :D

I can't sit in the same place for that long anyways.  Sitting gets to me pretty quick and within 30-60 minutes, I'll have shooting pains down my leg(s).  Maybe driving is a last option for me :rolleyes

Needless to say, but I'll say it anyway is Swift has screwed the pooch ever since they began handling the Supercenter deliveries. Their on time delivery ratio is about 75%, which is well below Wal*Mart's 99.7%.

The company has plans to eventually shift the grocery freight to our own private fleet, but knowing how the suits in Bentonville do things, that will most likely take quite a while to impliment. Some of our fleet is already doing grocery in New Mexico. It won't affect me though because what I do is out of the loop. :good

Swift is an entry level driving job. They pay about 1/3 to 1/2 of what I make.

Their turnover rate is extremely high because the pay is horrible for the hours put in. However the sad part is, in order to get a decent paying job, you have to work your way through companies like Swift, J.B. Hunt, Schneider to get your time in. :beat

Decent paying local work is almost impossible to come by, 95% of over the road jobs pay lousy and any resemblence of a home life is totally out the window :stupid.

I have a good job, but it took many years of hard work paying my dues to get there.

I wanted to drive for Alpha Beta supermarket around 20 years ago.  I worked in a store and in those days, that would be enough to waive the several years prior driving experience normally required.  As long as you got your license and already worked for the company, you were in. :D  They changed the rules since then though.

My brother's father-in-law has driven truck all his life (he's in his mid-50's).  He drives for one of the petrollium delivery outfits here in Tucson now and loves it.  He makes more than when he was over the road, and is home every night (his longest run is from here to El Paso).  Knowing what little I do about the transport industrie, I would say he has it dicked.

 the companies get richer - the drivers get poorer .  hours +pay  :stupid  -

my dad made me get my licence and i still have it  drive on weekends ( cause i own a boat ) his words of wisdom - no matter what happens you can always drive a truck ...  

single , young ,  or pure bred truckers - ( old school ) they are a dying breed ...   :confused   should not be like that ...
