so how were the races GFR? I could hear the boats racing Sat morning and in the afternoon. Was there any accidents? Looked like the boats were unable to race today (sunday) due to the high winds.

Probably no more than any other form of racing.  People die on dirt tracks, moto cross, road courses, and drag strips every year.  You don't hear about most of them.

We're a pretty tight knitt group here on the boards, and most of the boat racers are known, so you hear about these tragedies more.

Actually, I thought Eddie quit boat racing because of the success of his Top Fuel Dragster, not enough time to do both.  In every interview when people ask him, he says his first love is boat racing...

Hi everyone I'm back had a good weekend, nice talking to ya again RL and nice meeting ya Todd!....

Although there was some unfortunate incidents, there also were some very good racing and all in all everyone had a good time!...A friend(Jeff W) that runs PS just put a brand new boat together and this was the first race with it, in the second heat coming into the first turn things were tight and Al J got pinched and backed off, Jeff slid and drove over the top of Al's deck and nosed dived, pitching him out of the boat and bumped his shin and ankle on the way out, other than that he is OK, boat should be ready to go in a couple of weeks. As far as Al J goes nothing happened to him the boat just sank but the boat is more or less a planter!..

Gus Schade one of the finest drivers driving an SS, came out of turn one and was on his way when he hit a hole or a roller and barrel rolled and when that happens usually you end up staying with the boat and he ended up tangling with the hardware and it killed him instantly!..Thoughts and prayers go out to all involved!..

What kind of shit talk is that RRM, ain't no more than any other form of racing!.. Wanna talk about playing with death, what about all the the kids in the summertime on the river, almost every week you hear about somebody eating it, and they're not racing!.. :rolleyes

The year Eddie hill retired, the sport lost a few good people. The speeds were getting faster and faster and was going beyond the capability of the boats. The boats were built for 180mph and these guys were pushing over 200 and nobody was doing any R & D on the boats to accomodate the higher speeds, so after his last crash he decided to hang it up. Shortly after that they started redesigning the boats but he never went back!..BTW, I talked to him a few years ago at the SEMA show and he said he still has his hydro and was going to tame it down a bit and use it for a lake toy!.. :good
