I'm sure most have you have already heard on HB that K3-River-Rat aka: Chuck is no longer with us. I know that several that frequent this board had become internet buddies so to speak with K3 as I did. Doug, MissHBJet, & Rivercutie and myself spent many a night on who's still up the end of last year bs'ing with K3 as well as others. Traci also I know was his friend. I will miss him and his entertaining powerposting very much as well as his friendship. Godspeed K3

I just got home and read this sad news.

Thanks Mike for posting this thread as I probably wouldn't have made it over to hotboat tonight otherwise. Chuck is registered on this board as "Rat" although he didn't post very much here.

On hotboat.net, one of the things he was known for was his use of smileys.

There were MANY times that I couldn't reply to his quoted posts with one smiley, because he had already used the limit in his.

Something else not mentioned so far in the hotboat thread was his use of quotations. Sometimes it seemed that every other word in his posts had quotation marks around them.

He was truly one of a kind.

K3 "gave" me about 200 of my posts on hotboat.net in the "Who is still up?" thread. Like Mike said, we spent MANY nights getting to know each other in that thread. It was K3 who announced the challenge to race the "JazzyJess" thread to reach 1,000 posts. The thread just kept going though. K3 was definately a "Power Poster", but he disappeared for awhile. I remember wondering what was going on with him, but I didn't realize how rough it had been for him lately. When we heard from him again, it seemed to be scaled way back.

It's kind of eerie looking back now, but his location listed in his profile on this board says "Lost".

I know he appreciated the friendships he had with the people on the boards. I just wish there was something more we could have done for him. His very last post on hotboat.net simply said

I am truely saddened when I heard the news. K3 for a few monts kept it alive on Hot Boat, he was a friend on-line. I was looking forward to meeting him this summer in Havasu, but ot looks like his pain took that from us :angry

Yeah Doug K3 has been on my mind much of today as well as last night and yesterday. A little tough to take at times that he's no longer around. The sign was there with that last post and I totally missed it. K3 "always" had plenty to say. I dismissed it as him being tired of all the bs going on at HB on the bashing and stupid threads etc. I had lost much of my interest as well so I didn't think too much about it. I wish now I'd been paying more attention to his being absent and his posts being out of character. Can't help feel I could have helped him some way had I seen the sign. Like they say, hindsight is always 20-20. I'm very sad about it though.

Those are my feelings exactly Mike. I know he had a problem with his internet connection and I guess I sort of accepted that as a reason for his absence. What I downplayed was the fact that his posts WERE out of character though. I keep thinking about his listing his location on this board as "Lost". I can't help but think that he was feeling that way when he registered.

Iv'e lost two good freinds lately the same way, I don't understand it and probably never will. My religious ways tell me his in a better place. The last conversation I had with him he sounded like he was tired of the pain. God bless him.

As sick of the "Who is still up?" thread I got, I'm greatful that it is something I can go back to and reread. I'm very much looking forward to rereading the first 1,000 posts. Those were some really good times.

Ditto that. I actually did a little of that last night I was feeling so down. K3 came into it around page 17-20 somewhere I think. We had some funny shiznit goin on some of those nights

Last night and all day I was thinking about what happened.

I lost a great friend to the family 13 years ago to the same thing, she had 2 kids, we lost touch with her husband over the last couple years and last year her husband took his own life.

It really hurts when I see or hear these stories, even more when it is family

That's funny

and very appropriate. I think its his extensive use of "clickable k3s" and CAPS and "quotes" that I will miss the most from his powerposting. He definately had a flair with every post.

I really don't recall talking to K3, it makes no difference to me though. He was on the boards and when you lose a fellow boater, you lose alittle piece of your self too! I shed a tear last night for K3 and didn't know why! I see we are a internet family and you can't help but feel pain and heart break when one of us is gone and not coming back! I hope not to see this for awhile though, your mind is not at work where it is suppose to be and not at home because it's just sitting their in the back of your mind...wondering ...is there something I could have done?

I just read about K3 tonight. Very sad news. It brings an instant reality check to much of the senseless bashings that go on on HB. My HB usage has been way down for the past couple months so I did not notice he had been absent, as I had been absent. But, you see people for while, then they drop off, and then they come back and so forth.

I gotta tell you - K3's use of quotes and smileys drove me nuts and I usually skipped over most of his messages due to my lack of attention span. I actually wrote a reply on correct quotation usage and how his messages were distracting to read - but I never sent it as I figured it was just his style and I was being an ass as usual. I think most of us now see quite a bit of insight in almost all of his posts.

It is hard for most of us to comprehend taking our own lives. I can't even imagine the level of pain (mental and/or physical) someone has to be in to do this. Depression is very powerful. I am lucky in that it is not my nature to get very depressed. But, at the same time, I have a difficult time understanding and relating to people who have serious depression - and many times don't take things as serious as I should. I will make a concious effort to be more aware so that I might be able to help others to avoid K3's end. I have two sisters who have had serious bouts of depression, and now feel lucky to realize they survived as they had openly talked of suicide. While I don't think I have the ability to personally help, I do know that I have to find someone that can.

God bless K3 and I pray you are in a better place now.

It is funny how much the friendships we make over the internet really mean to us. Like I said in my post over in hot boat I get great joy out of the friendships that I have made on these boards. I know that I have given people hard times in the past (like riding Rexone about his catalog

) but please donÃ¢â‚¬â„¢t take any of it seriously. All of my comments are in fun and meant to be with a sense of humor.

I just want all of you guys to know if you ever need someone to talk to Lindsey and I are always here. I donÃ¢â‚¬â„¢t want to hear about loosing any more of my friends!

I just got home from Parker where my pontoon boat decided it did not want to go forward any more. It ruined my whole weekend,Then I jump on the boards to find this thread. it sort of puts life into perspective!

Chuck's passing is a reminder to all of us that these are real people posting on these boards. Chuck and I replied to each others posts enough for me to consider him a real friend. The sad thing is I have NEVER seen a picture of him. I've seen his cars and boats, but never him. I have met alot of you in person.

Others that I have not met, I have seen their personal pics. There have been alot of you that I have introduced myself to when I've seen you in person because I already knew what you looked like.

Considering this, I just added a personal pic to my profile on this board. It's nothing great, but it helps in identifying myself. I hope that some of you will share your's as well.

You were easy to spot the first time I met you. You were the guy getting out of the truck with the HavasuDoug license plate. Its kind of funny when you meet people from the forums face to face, you feel like you already know them but, you also feel kind of strange acting like you know them at the same time.
