Hey All,
Leaving out of Reno on Wed (March 30) for my first trip to Havasu. Couple buds and I are going to check out the area and hit the lake in ma boat. As of now, since all the camping places are full, we have no place to stay, so maybe boat camping or making a new aquaitance is in order, which shouldn't be too tough, i hope.

We'll be out to do some wakeboarding and tipping back copious amounts of alcohol, so hit me up.

If anyone has any insight, advise, or warnings feel free to point us in the right direction.

Well let me tell you back in the day when we didnt have a place to stay(That almost rhymes)Anyway we would go to the south side of the overflow parking at crazy horse camp ground. You can drive your truck right down by the water and camp right there,then walk in to the crazy horse to use the showers etc.Just an idea! :cool

They have some affordable motels there if you haven't check that route yet.

Campgrounds.....try Havasu Landing (Cali Side), Cattail/Sandpoint, Black Meadows(lower Cali Side)....you can also camp in Needles and boat down.... :good

You can camp on the lake for a small fee....I, believe...

There are first come first served camping spots on the beaches. Its like $10.00 a night. Some areas are boat in only, so its super private, and there are some with bathrooms. I think I will take the kids sometime this spring.

They say the nights are awesome. Take some plastic tubs for all your gear.

The ones I know about are on the south end, on the AZ side. You can see them from the water.

Doug, did the same thing with boy scouts in the 80's. awoke with a rattle snake curled up next to my sleeping bag. :eek

Thanks Procraftdave, Havasudoug, Shueman, Riverliver, Mandelon, and Haduna,

The advise is greatly appreciated. I figure that camping, where ever it may be found will be the ticket, most in part due to the apprenhension of leaving my boat and equipment by itself for long.

From what I hear, I should bring cases of redbull or an alternative, because there are things going on day and night. So far, I've heard of the London bridge and Copper Canyon, but where are some other places where party minded folks like to spend their time?

Once again, the advise is appreciated and if you're up for a cold one, give me a holler. I should be back on the board tomorrow, but plan on leaving Wed morning for the trip down.

Hell, just sleep in your boat, but there are numerous sites around the lake where you could anchor(or beach it) and sleep. I hear Walmart parking lots are usually not booked :rolleyes

I just have one request, if drinking copious amounts of booze either have a DD or stay put...we'd like to hear about your stories from you, instead of about you. And the other families that share the lake appreciate it too.

I think you will definitely have fun. It gets hella dark at night out there. If you go and party till after dark you may have a heck of a time finding your way back......maybe plan it for a full moon weekend? Be careful out there. Do you have a GPS?

I appreciate the concern and the words of advise, I'll keep that in mind and have a safe, but exciting trip.

Where is the sandbar? Ive heard alot about it but haven't quite pinned it down, directions please.

Mandelon,
I agree with you on staying put when you're not familiar to the area. I do have a GPS, might come in handy, but i'd figure as long as the lake level is consistant, beaching it won't be too tough.

Everyone,
Are there any places with obsticles or areas that shouldn't be ventured? I'm interested in finding where I should keep an eye out and knowing what to avoid. Any local help is appreciated.

Sandbar is North of the main lake up the river about 10-15 minutes. Its after a hard right turn in the river, can't be missed.
In the lake itself there are few obsticles but several coves where some underwater devils lurk...often times its shallow near the points of these coves entering the lake. If you stay in the center of lake you will be safe but unless there is a strong moon its hard as hell to see at night. Just be aware, the shorelines are very inconsistant when it comes to depths, not every shore is easy/deep access nor are many that sandy.
