Ok HD and Jordy what is the deal. Do I have to worry about running my boat at Havasu? All this talk about getting swamped is making me a little nervous. I have never been to Havasu so I am not sure what to expect.

You'll be fine Miller, just as long as it doesn't get windy! :eek

I've been there too many times to count with my 18.5' Challenger jet. The winds can kick up pretty high swells, but they should only slow you down. There have been several occasions over the years when I've had several miles to travel at only about 10 MPH. It sucked, but I wasn't worried. Water has gone over my bow a few times, but that is very rare. If you had to, you can usually find a beach to wait it out.

The guys are planning on holding the OP6 gathering where are little 19"jetboats with low free board will be fine. Randy drove his jet from Needles through the gorge to the sand bar {thats stoping for gas though}.

I usually run at San Antonio or Naci they are both pretty good sized lakes and can get whipped up if it gets windy. But neither of them have any really big boats running on them. I was really more worried about the big rollers coming from the Titanic Cat or Offshore Boat.

The water conditions were great, but it still took a long time because it was so far and we took a lot of breaks. It was fricken hot too! So hot that the jacket for the throttle cable melted and started to stick to the cable! I can say that I did it, but once is enough for me.

I was out in mine one year on Labor Day. It was rough and slow going, but wasn't impossible. On an off weekend you won't have any problems. I'm thinking your boat has freeboard like mine, where water seldom comes over the transom, rather than some boats like HB's or 78's that have a couple inches of freeboard and have to be much more careful. You know, the green boat would be a good boat to have out at havasu as I know you wouldn't have to worry about it.

From my understanding you can bring the green boat to OP6 for us to pick up as I'm sure Blown will have finished the payments by then...and seeing as he'll be there...maybe I can bring some shoes for the trade off... :rotflmao

How far is it from the sandbar to the bridge? I was in laughlin in Sept. and we drove down to the sandbar, it didn't seem to take us that long nor that much gas. Small tanks on the boat?

I had my 20ftr out on the west side of the island one Easter weekend and the wind chop was brutal but managable :cool

just have to tough it out. Whats the worse that can happen, sink your boat no biggie, they dry out just fine and you'll probably make news Ã‚Â Ã‚Â :laugh

Bring the boat all of us freeboard impaired peeps can hang together in the channel if it gets to crazy.

Kyle, without looking at a map, I think it's about 8-10 miles from the bridge to the sand bar. I think it's about 60 from the bridge to Davis Dam. 120 miles roundtrip / 3 mpg = 40 gallons. I have two 11 gallon tanks for a total of 22 gallons. Without ever making that trip before, I was paranoid and topped off the tanks everytime I passed a pump just in case. When I left the bridge, I got gas in Lake Havasu City. I topped off at the I-40 crossing, at the AVI Casino in NV, and directly across from the casinos in Laughlin. Downriver was a piece of cake, cuz I had no current to fight.

I had my old '76 18' Hawaiian out in Havasu Memorial 2001.

I launched at site 6 and there were swells of 2-3' out there. It was slow and wet, but do-able. I circled the island a couple of times and then boated the rest of the afternoon in a BIG cove across from the island that was dead flat.

When the seas are that big out there though, lossing an engine could mean sinking the boat. You have to have forward motion to keep the swells out of the back of the boat.

My freeboard is pretty low. The back of my boat tapers in and gets pretty narrow so it ends up sitting pretty low in the water. It is also radiused which although is astatically pleasing does not do much to keep water out.

I guess I will hug the shoreline(until I get my fountain) if it gets rough and follow someone for the buddy system. If you see me sinking please come pick me up.
