Site Six is getting a facelift as the Parks and Recreation Department installs new docks.
Funded by a $92,000 grant through the Arizona Game and Fish Department, the new courtesy docks are "quite a bit better," according to Parks Division Manager Bart Wagner. He said they will offer more slips for Site Six users as well as being located slightly further away from the launch ramp, thereby easing traffic congestion in that area.
"We've moved them over a little bit to give better access to the launch ramp and facilitate launching," said Wagner.
The old docks, still in place this weekend, will be removed once installation of the new docks is complete, expected to be by the end of the week.
Fred Adler, president of London Bridge Marine Corp., the company installing the docks, said they began working on the project on May 31.
"They were custom built in Minnesota and then shipped out here," said Adler.
The new docks are made of Rock Decking vinyl attached to an aluminum frame with plastic floats. The vinyl decking is expected to be easier to walk on during Lake Havasu City's hot summer days for people lacking footwear as they jump in and out of their boats.
"It's a little cooler on the feet," said Wagner.
