RAYSTOWN — Three people are dead following what police believe was a boating accident on Raystown Lake, Pennsylvania State Police Huntingdon report.
Police said officers of the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission were contacted Saturday night by another boater who reported seeing a damaged boat on the west shore of the lake, directly across from the Tatman Run Public Access Area.
When officers arrived they discovered the bodies of Clair F. Becker, 46, and June M. Becker, 45, of Duncansville, as well as the body of their 5-year-old child.
Fish and boat officers were joined on the scene by Lake Raystown park rangers, state police officers, Pennsylvania Game Commission Officers, Huntingdon County Sheriff’s Deputies, divers from both Mount Union and Newton Wayne fire departments and ambulance crews from the Marklesburg Fire Department.
The Beckers were pronounced dead at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, by the Huntingdon County Coroner and one of his deputies, police said.
Police said they suspect the boating accident took place at about 11 p.m. Saturday when the Becker’s boat struck a dirt and rock embankment at what police said they estimated to be about 40 to 50 miles per hour.
The boat was discovered at the dirt and rock embankment and displayed signs of a high speed impact, police said. The Beckers remained in the boat during the accident, police said.
Police said autopsies will be conducted today on the victims at the J.C. Blair Hospital in Huntingdon to determine the manner and cause of death of the victims.
The risk of running at night is not worth it....
