Good Luck!!!  I hate wrenching on Beemers...  Its because they are so over-engineered, there are three of something when there only needs to be one...  That makes them good and bad! :stupid

Have you ever tried running a wire from the trunk to the engine compartment???  Talk about triple fire wall and what not...  :drink

I am the mechanic :( Can't figure out how the driveshaft comes apart. Looks like it will need to be cut and repaired then welded back together :banghead

It comes out of the car simple enough cant see how it comes apart (splits) to get the carrier bearing off. :stupid

It should come apart in the middle somewhere....and mark how it came apart so the balance isn't effected after reassembly. Not sure there is any secret to it. :stupid
If you can't figure it out I'll check with the guys out back if you need...
Seemed it took them a couple hours or so. Drop complete exhaust, shields then prop shaft...

I checked with my shop and yes it does split in the center but he warned that if you're doing the support you best do the u-joints done at the same time, they get stiff and contribute to the support failure.....the u-joints are unservicable. Very few places are able to replace the joints. There is a shop here locally that does rebuild the shafts and supply shops around the country.
Ironically the car he was working on just got a new driveshaft, looks about the same model year.

If this drive shaft is anything like the 86 b2000 mazda I had. You do not replace the center bearing, you replace the drive shaft.  If you look at the open ends where you can see the u-joint caps and DO NOT see clips but swedge marks. the joint is not replacable.  CE had a freind that tried to replace mine and it took like 3/4 of a tone to remove the joint and there was not a joint on this earth to be bought through any supply house that would work with out major machine work.  Call around and do some research.  This sounds like the same thing.  I found many places that showed a replacement joint. But once out and measurements made I was screwed.

Just my .02 worth or experiance on forean cars.  :)

I'm a Mazda parts guy from way back, yep the B2000/2200 and some RX7's had non serviceable driveshafts. The thing I need to fix is the carrier bearing ujoints seem OK ;)

Not sure if this can be done but how about puttng a one piece shaft in?  :stupid  Eliminate the center bearing all together. What issues would that couse or eliminate?   :rolleyes
