I am looking for a new anchor for the boat, My last one was a fortress alloy anchor, it was light weight and held well, but was some what bulky in the boat.
I am thinking about getting a "box anchor" but know little about them, holding power, what size, pros and cons?



anyone???? :stupid  :confused

BTW; I would order from overtons, but can't find it on the web page :stupid  :stupid

I have the small box anchor, it is a little bulky like your previous one and quite heavy but it will hold in any condition, I usually anchor my boat off shore in the current and I have never had a problem with it moving, in fact last year I had my boat anchored and another boat tied to mine and it held great. Unfortunately Overtons doesn't carry them, you either have to go direct to the Mfg. or you can buy from Rex Marine, good luck, let us know what you end up with...

BTW, if you see this guy on guard playing the part of an anchor bouy, it's me, he is the protector of fun at the river...

I have a box and it seems to work great. I know somebody that has a 28 ft Nordic and they use two of them and that has held their boat during monsoon storms.

I've got a box anchor, my second in fact as I gave my first one away with the Schiada when I sold it, and it would take something phenominal to get me to consider a different anchor.  I've held 8 boats at Pleasant with my single anchor, and I'm talking about boats 28' and bigger.  Well worth the money.  If you're buying line at the same time, go through Rex Marine and get the braided anchor line with the stuff bag.  Makes it very easy to deal with.   :beer  :D

I have a big Fortress and it does the job. I'm lucky to have the perfect spot to stow it out of the way.

A buddy started using a box at the beginning of last season and he has nothing but great things to say about it.

Now when we all want to raft up off of one anchor he's usually the first one to get his out. So, in a way, the box works great for me too! :D

It's a fact of Life:

After Monday and Tuesday, even the Calendar says : WTF .......

I use a milk crate, its kinda like a box ;)

I don't use anchors very often, I usually just tie off to a tree or just beach it. We don't stay in one spot very long normally. But this is all because of where I do my boating. If the river becomes a more frequent happening :beer  I'm sure a box anchor is in my future :good

I love my box anchor...  I have a bunjee like rope on there so you toss it out while going toward the shore.  Jump off... Sand spike it and the bunjee pulls the boat back out.  

Same with when you leave.  You pull the boat into shore, jump on and the bunje pulls you out into the water so, no sand in jet pump :)

I dont know if the bunjee is standard or not...  I just thought it was a cool feature!

I have one of those bungee ropes to. Thought it would be cool for anchoring the boat out deeper and not having to swim to and from it. And I've never used it  :stupid

Got a My Rope last year, had them personalize it with the boats name "Irmanator" pretty cool...

Much the same way here....just have a small 'shroom anchor for the back end....holds fine if there's not alot of shore-break... :D

We have dragged every anchor in the river except the box. As everyone else has said here, it's great!  Never really wanted to pay that much for an anchor, but the GPS drift alarm just got more annoying than $150.00!!

We got the large, probably overkill for a 23' boat, but its held four similar sized boats rafted up to us with us as a test in the channel.

The next best feature is the short scope that is requires. It will keep you on a short leash in a crowded bay or busy channel. That alone is worth its weight in Gel coat and fiberglass work... :good ............................... :plane
