| Quote (gigamurph @ April 08 2006,2:31 pm) | | I voted for the "Voluntary" program. A "Mandatory" program would only succeed in doin' the one thing that nobody wants; more regulation and control of our favorite passtime (after baseball, of course). Besides, mandatory or not, a license is still only as good as how the person carryin' it chooses to utilize the knowledge garnered to obtain said license. It's not about regulation as it is about good, old fashion common sense! When I started boatin' "oh-so-long-ago", there was less regulation, less LE presence, less "free-for-all" partyin', AND less accidents and "events". Boatin' was more of a lifestyle choice at one time than a "status symbol" choice. Now, don't go rippin' on me about that last statement before askin' yourself how many people you have seen runnin' a 100MPH "Hot Boat" that don't appear to have the sense that God gave a goose? Far too many and the numbers keep growin'! Then ask yourself how many of those people got into boatin' simply because their "neighbor" got a boat and they just had to have one too. I think you'll find out that the percenatge of the "status" buyers, who btw, "don't have the time or want to learn the rules of the waterways", will be quite high. I'm not sayin' that all new boat owners fit in this category; but far too many do! Sorry if I stepped on any toes; but that's my slant on boatin today. |
I agree, boating has become more of ,"I have more money than that guy, let's get one of those big boats." and there is less respect for the rest of us. And agian not all , but some.
There is no easy answer that doesn't cost freedom or money
