Can't help with a contact but the scraping is very messy but rather easy.

Then you will need to find a texture guy that can come in and finish it off, by doing the scraping yourself you will probably save a minimum of $500, could be as high as $1,000 depending on the area size.

Thanks, don't have any desire to do it on my own, it just never comes out right.  Got a quote last week for $3600 for the whole house just looking for a better deal.  Thanks though!!  :D

Seems like a lot to me but I did it myself too.  3 Bedrooms, Livingroom, Dining room and a hallway.  

Even if you just do the prep work you'll save yourself some cash.  Do the scraping yourself and let a pro come in and smooth and texture your ceilings.

I did mine myself when I bought my house and gutted it.  Home Depot had a tool specifically for popcorn celing removal.  Was like a big putty knife/scraper blade, but had a bag attachment so it scraped off and fell into the bag rather than on the floor.  I did my whole house in an afternoon.  Piece of cake.  I opted for the garden hose rather than the garden sprayer.   :beer  :rotflmao  :D

Everyone is a tough guy, until you meet one.

Nothing that a 10' ladder wont take care of, I have vaulted in my house as well. If you have someone come in they're going to charge you extra because they say they need scaffolding, reality is they can do it with a tall ladder, it just requiers more climbing...

That's what I said! The guys who gave the quote were referred by a contractor friend, figured they would give an honest quote maybe I was wrong...

Yeah scraping and refinishing, the house is only 1500 sq ft, and the kitchen has already been scraped but needs finishng.

You should get it done for $1.35 to $1.50  a foot to scrape and retexture with a handtrowel coating.  A bit more if the ceilings are high, and if the carpet needs to be covered or if furniture needs to be moved.

Having it done is really expensive.  We had ours done from our friend who is a drywall contractor, because of the high ceilings (my husband didn't want the hassle - very messy).  They needed a scaffold in our livingroom.

I with Jordy, if your not afraid of getting dirty you can knock it out no prob I just used a sprayer that you would use to spray for weeds and scraped it off with a tile scraper, but I did clear out the entire room including the floor covering. Then pay somebody to do the work that requires talent.    :peace
