Been looking at "Google Earth" checking into local lakes in SoCal  :break  anyway... are there any lakes that i can put a 28ft boat on? do the SoCal lakes have lenght/hp restrictions?

and the 82db thing....? do i have to fix my "silent choice" or can i use the thru hull...?
i see lots of jets and v-drives with open exhaust on the board...

Havasu... is it "Az laws" or does Cal mess that up too?

I'm not sure where in socal you are looking but around the inland empire you can go to Lake Elsinore, Silverwod, and I think Diamond valley ( If your boat passes it's restrictions and I think there is a speed limit on that one ). Lake Perris used to allow them but with the water so low I wouldn't put a 15' aluminum boat on that lake. There's one just out of Ramona in San Diego but I can't remember the name. Just remembered San Vicente.. I think

i havent had the joy of a long tow, not much over 40 miles or so, but i guess thats going to be the norm for a couple of years.
i need to get my bearings all checked before i make that 2200 mile drag.  :eek
and hope the price of diesel keeps goin down....

looking forward to running out to the Catalina islands, that should be fun. Anyone on here made that run??   :plane  :bebe

Just about all the local lakes in SoCal are 35mph limit, they check for proper safety equipment and mufflers, many are no alcohol, etc.  More suited for Bayliners.... :laugh

At Elisnore, you can make a "speed run" down the center of the lake, mid-week.  If your boat will do over 60-70mph, they do require things like lanyard, helmet, orange vest, and such....I believe  :stupid .  It's got a nice green algae tint to it, but not harmful to man or boat.

Lake Pacifica is the way to go. :cool  Ã‚ Lots of the big boys over on HotBoat make the Catalina run.  You can usually find some partners to run with, which you should do, early in the morning on the week-ends.  A marine band radio is encouraged... :D

Ca has restrictive laws. However, many of my friends run large, fast, and loud boats on most of our lakes with no problems. Castiac is the only lake in my area where no fun is allowed. Pyramid, Piru, and Isabella all pretty much let us run and don't give us any problems unless someone is boating really stupid. :good

Been there done that.

We always run to Catalina and the end of summer.  As a matter of fact a bunch of us are going on Oct 22nd.  You shoud join us if you can.  :D

that bay is about as big as ours here ...were 120mph cats run wild... and no restrictions.  :bebe

anyway, should be a lot of fun...  island hopping is cool, especially if you have 6 or 8 neked  :drink wives/girlfriends around...

It's good. There are lots of great people to boat with out here.  :beer
I've only had to use one mechanic out here for some basic servicing and an upper motor mount. He seems to have done ok. I have a friend who has offered to tow me down south to Alan Stokers shop (John's Custom Marine). This year I'm going to take him up on it. They are the ones who rigged my boat and they are the best in So Cal for my type of boat/motor combo. :good

some place to get wet and let the wife sun her  :ass
do a little  :beer  :drink  and see whats around.

if you see a boat (white/green/gold) with "AWE2BNEKED" on the back, stop by and say hi.
if your a  :beer  drinker, i'll make sure to have extra.

we're newbies (or will be in Jan) and wont know ANYONE...

Isabella is a nice lake. The water is clean and it's in a nice setting. With a boat as large as your's I woud stay away from the north side of the lake, because there is a forrest of submerged and partly submerged trees there. However, there is lots of room to run in the main area of the lake near the main dam, the auxcillary dam, and along the south shore where the water is plenty deep. :good  The road in from hwy 5 is very narrow and pretty screwed up. The road from the 14 is much better. There is one steep grade (the Walker pass) but the road is smooth and nice and wide. :D  We usually like to drag the boat up with the RV and stay several days around memorial day and again near labor day. In the past those weekends were great, but lately they have become too crowded and even though we go up on the thursday before, sites are still getting very hard to come by at the aux dam, where we like to stay. This year, instead of labor day weekend, we went up the weekend before and it was much better. :good Most weekends it's great.
P.S.The lake is usually calm in the mornings and it tends to blow out in the afternoons. So if you ski do it early. Your boat would be perfect for running in those blown out afternoons. :good

sounds great, the cummins willl handle the steep roads with no problems.... we've been looking into an RV, not sure i want a 5th wheel, the dodge is a shortbed/quad cab...

if we end up with a smaller boat, we will pull them both,
i hear 65ft is the max length for pullin tandem. My dad does it
all the time ( in Texas )

till then, we'll camp in the boat... its too long to pull with anything else...

and thats on a lake, we're they are close together....

try 6-8 footrs' 20-40 ft apart.... its fun... if everyone doesnt mind getting wet... or till the salt water drys.

i had a 19 ft ski boat, and between the windshield and the seat/storage banging around (on lake water)... i am really impressed that the Donzi doesnt hardly make a sound.... no matter how ruff it gets.... till the icechest becomes weightless.   :bebe  :peace

it is hell on stereo eq... i dont know what i broke last, but i cant keep a ground for crap now...  :banghead

Isabella is known for it's wind. In fact, I remember, back when I used to wind surf a lot, it was picked by the main boardsailing mag as Ca's best lake, due to it's high winds.
I would guess 2 ft chop is pretty much the norm for most of the lake on a summer afternoon there. However, the lake has 4 sections and the area of the lake around where the sections converge can get a bit dicy for us small low profile guys. Nevertheless, I have never seen anything there that would give your 28 footer anything more than a fun ride. :D
For your boat the water would be a blast for speed runs (it is for mine). However, the lake is at 2600 ft, so unless you have a blower motor, you most likely wont break any of your speed records there. ;)

now days, i'm more into "making it comfy" for the wife, casual fun for me...  :beer  :grouphug
i'm injected, not blown (lately   :eek )... so the altitude wont or shouldnt bother me much.

its about having a good time... spoil the wife... enjoy the sights  :drama  :ass
and meeting new and exciting people.

i like to take people out for a nice fun run... 6-8 people have plenty of room... and it seems like bikini tops fly off at 60+ (or they parachute out of place...)

Like I said, there are lot's of performance boaters out here. We often get together for trips, parties, and BBQs etc. In fact we (my, wife, son, and I) just got back from a weekend at Havasu with some of the local hot boat gang. :beer

we wont have a clue where to start...
where to launch or stay over night
where to stay away from... where to hang out  :drink

but it would be great to meet up with other powerboaters.
we had the FPBA (Florida Power Boat Assosiation) here, and those guys are way cool. Anytime we pulled up, there would be 10 guys (and the wives) helping get us through the crowd, and tie us up with the other big boys...
no matter how deep the water or how strong the current...
it is an AWESOME bunch of boaters.  :beer

we did the Emerald Coast Poker Run a few years, and man was that a blast... We were in Powerboat Magazine last year,
the wife was pissed that the girls were taking turns at getting the tickets punched, and another girl was on the bow in the picture...  she was  :angry

oh well... on to our next adventure...  :drama  :peace
