So, it's the weekend and we're home for a change so I kinda sorta gotta help clean up the house. Seeing as we'll probably be having people over and all that. :stupid

I usually do the vacuuming....I don't have to do much else, except take out the trash and of course, the garage is all mine. My wife is pretty particular about how she likes things around the house.

I'm sure that most of you guys learned long ago that the best way to be relieved of a chore is to screw it up! :good

So I was watching TV the other night and I saw a commercial for that little robot vacuum thing - Roomba. I've seen it before and just disregarded it as too small and probably a gimmick that didn't work. Anyway, the commercial shows it sucking up nuts. Not the kind you eat, the kind that go on bolts! :eek

Well, yesterday I must have spent at least 2 hours vacuuming the house (if not more) :banghead

I cleaned that sucker like it has never been cleaned before (by me anyway). Early this morning we had to shoot over to Target to get some cleaning supplies (the wife is on a mission)
Anyway, I go over to the vacuum area because I think we could use a new hepa filter....wow, 25 bucks for a filter! :rolleyes

Then I see that roomba gizmo and pick it up and start reading....well, I bought one.

Got it home, gave it a short charge and let it run around the floor just to see how it works...

DAMN! I'm amazed! :jumpie

That thing goes almost anywhere and I swear it picked up stuff our huge 12 amp vacuum left behind!

So, I'm stoked. And my wife is a very happy camper because it means that she doesn't have to deal with the vacuum or pester me to do it anymore.

Now I just want to let that sucker get a full charge and see how it does out in the garage!!!

Target wouldn't have been my first choice.....I just needed a few small things, you can get them cheaper elsewhere too:

I did not know that the same company makes the robot toy Robosapien. :stupid

They even encourage you to hack the robot software...there is a serial port on the vacuum. :eek

A friend of mine bought one, or similar, and that thing is all over the house!! His wife is addicted to vacuming though, so she still uses the conventional one too. I'm talking she's been known to vacume 4-5 times a day!! :eek

I just don't like our local Target..... bad experience buying some patio furniture last spring. Although, bad customer service seems to be running rampant in Yuma these days. :angry

Yea, they are great! My girlfriend who is a paraplegic and can not vacuum uses it! It's great!

I wondered about how these little robot sorta vacumes did. I have a cat that is an indoor cat and no matter what we do he can keep a piece of that cat box rock in his toes clear to the other end of the house. Now you walk through the house and get stuck in the foot with it. That would be good to run the tile floors and keep that stuff up as well as any fuzz balls. :good

I'm not too sure how well they do on the hard floors. everyone that I know that owns one, uses them on carpeting. I would think that it would pick up the big chunks....

My mother-n-law has one like this, And it sucks, she has hardwood floors, it keeps getting stuck under the chairs, and she has to help in along. I do all the vacuuming, she say it makes her sneeze alot, so she goes shopping while I do that.

Hardwood floors was the primary reason I got it. We tried those vac-broom things and they didn't work. This one works great. It has a rubber, squeegee type thing-a-ma-bob that picks up everything and flips it into the dustbin. Quarters, Q-tips, dog hair, christmas tree needles even!

It works better than I thought it would on berber carpet....but it won't work on shag.

BTW, lawbreaker2, tell you MIL that she needs to flip the chairs up onto the table and pick-up things off the floor and then it works great. Afterall, you'd have to move the chairs with a regular vacuum...wouldn't you? :stupid

Yes, the brushes raise and lower with the drive wheels. I'm not sure what generation this one is. I think it went through an evolutionary process as time went by.

I think I'm going to pop for the optional "HomeBase" set-up where it finds it's docking station by infrared light and when the battery is low, it goes and charges itself up. Then it goes back to cleaning at a scheduled time. :cool
