By MSN Money staff Auto dealers' year-end incentives are typically meant to clear out bulging inventories of minivans and rental-quality sedans, not sexy Italian luxury cars with six-digit price tags.
Yet Maserati North America has announced it will offer 1.9% financing on its $108,050 Quattroporte sedan. (That price includes $1,350 for shipping and a $3,000 gas-guzzler tax.). There are a total of 60 vehicles on dealers' lots, according to Automotive News.
You may know the over-the-top Quattroporte as the car of choice of mobsters, models and mooches from shows such as "Entourage," "Desperate Housewives" and "The Sopranos."
The big sedan is a competitor to high-dollar machines such as the BMW 7 Series and Mercedes S-Class, only much rarer. Maserati sold only about 1,500 of the model last year; BMW sells that many of its 7 Series in a month.
The promotion is a test "to see if those customers looking at an $80,000 competitor car would make the leap to Maserati," a spokesman told Automotive News. "So far, our data show we can expect very little incremental sales. The indication is our buyer is still more inclined to want exclusivity and exceptional servicing than pricing."
