Go during the week, stay away from holiday weekends. As far as Roosevelt goes you can now rent trailer/condos at SpringCreek and they have rooms at Roosevelt Lake Resort (not a resort just a name), the road from Globe to the lake is much improved, you could even stay in Globe its only about 1/2 hour from the lake. Thats a long haul from Bisbee to the river and the fishing is So/So.
Here's a few links:

Places to stay near the lake |
From a man who says he loves to fish I'd listen to AZKC. . If you intend to be near the AVi anytime during the late Spring through early Fall you will deal with multiple boats on the river from there on south to Parker dam.....some driving very fast. |
Thank you everyone. Followed Ziggy's advice to follow AZKC's advice and used the link he provided to book two rooms at Spring Creek. Fished Roosevelt last time in a 14 foot aluminum seacraft (whatever Sears made then) with a 7.5 hp motor. Took forever to get across the lake especially w/my father and his friend and a head wind. They were fishing for crappie, and when they got out, since I didn't have a trolling motor, I rowed, trolling w/wiggle warts which were quite effective for smallmouth. Caught crappie, small mouth and large mouth on that trip.. 18 years ago.
I will make this trip sometime.. I'm a teacher (so I can fish), and turns out my Dad knows a "moofer" and wants to try that part of the river with his "moofer" guide next fall.
I really am thankful to all of you who responded. Any tips on fishing Roosevelt would be most welcome. Thanks again...
