Haliburton Moves Headquarters To Dubai

Halliburton Co., the U.S. oilfield service giant, said on Sunday it will move its corporate headquarters and its chief executive officer to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates in an effort to expand business in the Eastern Hemisphere. Halliburton chief executive David Lesar said Halliburton was considering listing its shares on one of the Middle East bourses. It is currently listed on the New York Stock Exchange. "My office will be in Dubai, and I will run our entire worldwide operations from that office," Lesar said at an energy conference in Bahrain. "Dubai is a great business center." Halliburton, which was led by Vice President Dick Cheney from 1995-2000, did not specify what, if any, tax or political implications the move might entail.

I heard on the News last night that a bunch of politico types started bad-mouthing the move and Haliburton was quick to respond that it won't effect their tax status since they will still be a U.S. Company........ya right.

Wait a couple of years and they'll slide the whole damn company through a big loophole, continue to reep BILLIONS of tax paid contracts and pay zip, zero nada in taxes!

I also heard that it was a move to avoid taxes on overseas money.....

The reason they have always got those contracts is because they are the only U.S. company that provides the range of services they do. I'm no business lawyer, so I can only wonder why they will still be considered a U.S. based co. Will they still be paying U.S. business taxes etc. Are they only saving money on the costs of running the head office and getting it closer to where so much of their work is?? I would have to know the answer to those types of questions before I could have any basis for an opinion on them or the move. After all, it is their (and their shareholders) business. I see ton's of haliburton vehicles around our area, all the time, so they must have a pretty large U.S. work force. If this proves to be a smart business move would that help or hurt them?
