Beckys car hates me :stupid

Its starts fine with her key which is the "A" key with the light. But when I use my key, the spare key it won't crank, but if I use her key it cranks right up. Craziest dam thing I've ever seen. :pissed

I'm sure its just coincidence right :banghead

I'm thinking swapping the electrical part of the switch just for giggles. Any thoughts?

Also the sellers gave me a ton of the books and paper work on the car, but the one thing I don't have is the code for the radio, can you help a brother out

Can I get it with the VIN or do I need the SN# off the radio? I'll need it when I disconnect the battery to do the switch won't I :confused

Hmmmmmmmmm, so give Becky the spare and you keep the other

Don't think your year model had the comp. chipped keys yet.
If replacing the ign components for wear its probably best to replace all three so everything is fresh, we've learned by just doing one its doesn't always solve the problem.
(Ign switch, steering lock portion and the key tumbler itself.)
I' d try just getting another key made off hers first, thats a cheap test.
or try pushing the key hard inward as your turn it and see if that has an effect.

She seems to get a chuckle out of the whole thing, She gives me the "It is my car afterall look" :laugh

No chip key, cause every now and then it will start with my key. Its according to how its mood I guess.

I'll get those numbers to you later this week. Looking for a CD changer, its all wired for one. May just go with an IPOD.

Need to reprogram the keyless transmitter, but I've got the book for that. Pass seat belt won't adjust down. Throw some new belts on it. And I get a wif of coolant after a long drive but nothing hits the ground. Overall I'm pretty impressed. You Krauts build a pretty dam good car :good

One of the things I show to people thats funny/kewl is how the window drops up/down when opening the doors

But I do have a plan. :break

Also how do you ID a BMW car with the EMS Immobilizer system? The key problems seem to point in that direction. It does start with my key but only after using the magic key :alien

Well I called the Mrs and she says the key does have a gold look to it compared to the other keys on her key ring. So that makes me believe the car is EMS equipped. But if thats true then I have a question. Would the EMS module remember the "chip" key for a bit? Because I used my key last night right after removing her key (2-3 seconds)and it cranked and started.

I truly do believe the Germans are still fighting WW2 by way of the BMW :pissed

Every time the ignition is switched "ON", the ISN number is sent from the EWS control Module to the DME, as a digital coded signal. The numbers must match before the DME will release the driveaway protection.

The ISN is continuously sent to the DME as long as the ignition is switched on.
The DME will ignore the loss of the ISN after the engine is running.
The EWS - DME link stays active for 10 seconds after the ignition is switched off.
Restarting or switching the ignition on within ten seconds cancels the key identification procedure.
The EWS control module signals the transmitter / receiver module to cancel the key identification process.

No problem, I think I have found out alot of info that I can ck out on my own. If I need more help/info I'll get with you and you can let Mr Burkey know.

Once I determine for sure it has EWS and what level it is I or II. Then I'll know more what I need.

I told Becky I'm selling it and buying her a 1968 Chevelle

Well I did confirm it has EWSII, Tryed my key nada, Becks key started it right up, pulled her key out, quickly used my key and it started, removed key for about 15 seconds, car wouldn't crank, used Beckys key and it cranked right up. Very scientific :rolleyes

Now its time to go key shopping, this is going to be painful. I've read and heard over $100 per key :drama

And of course it seems the Dealer is my only option. Anybody know of a BMW hookup :rolleyes

than rumoured, $40 for unlighted, 2-3 days shipping, Hell for that price I'll buy a couple extras. Lets just hope all the proper info is attached to the VIN at BMW :rolleyes

Should be ok unless the whole EWS system was changed at one point in its past.
BMW keeps 4 extra chips for each EWS system so once those run out you are SOL and have to replace the system.

Pretty swanky BMW dealer here in T Town. Keys on order should be here Monday or Tuesday. 2 Masters and a Valet for about a buckthirty :good
