Guest book spammers...........SUCK! 
For the last year or two, our guest book submissions were filtered through a third party to combat spam.  It cut spam by around 99%.   It did this by requiring a "human" type in a random security code before submitting.  This way automated systems could not sign the guest book.
This did not stop anyone who manually signed the page though.  Every once in a while, I had to manually delete entries.
This morning, I removed the third party filtering entirely and wrote my own security code system.  Now when someone signs the guest book, it is not automatically posted.  It is placed "on hold" for review by me before it gets posted.  Since most submissions, by far, are spam, I don't have to do anything to maintain it. When I get an email regarding a legitimate submission, I will allow it to be posted.  Since the spammers submissions will never make it to the web from our guest book, many of them will give up.
