Wow, He did not indicate to me he was in that game....although when I wrote him to say I had sold he was surprised but not overwhelmingly....and now that I think back at what he said it makes sense. He had mentioned to me that he needed to expand again, according to BMW, even though he just built a new store just a handfull of years ago........get this: One week after he'd opened his new store BMW sent a letter demanding the signs be upgraded to the newest design!!!! Fricken signs were a week old. Thats the stupid crap we've had to deal with. Owners name is Pete Cunningham, probably one of the nicest car dealers I know, outside of myself of course . There is and has been a wave of dealerships sold in the last few years. Demands from the factory, particularly with facilities, have become rather extreme so some of the medium to small stores can't see a RIO. Then the best alternative is to sell to those that have the wherewithall to fullfill the factory demands. I myself could not see investing $15mil or more, continue dealing with the stress and worry that my investment may not pan out and loose everything. In my opinion, the factory has gotten way to demanding but when they are riding the top of the wave they can get away with it. My prediction is BMW will end up with too many publicly owned stores that have tons of capital and may soon find they will be outnumbered. At nearly the same time I sold my "little" store two HUGE stores in the LA area sold too, so the pressure from BMW not only has effected small stores but the big ones too.....owners are tired of getting pushed around. . I'm gonna have to give Pete a call and see whats what. Ain't life Grand? Treat it that way. The Love of my Life, Jan.
