The GuestBook for the site has been modified AGAIN!

More than 99.0% of the entries are made by spammers. :banghead In the past I have done things to thwart their efforts, but they still persist. :beat

A while ago, I added a "security" number that has to be entered so entries have to be made manually, and that helped a lot.

Also, I made it so entries are not posted automatically.  I screen them first, so spammers don't get their stuff posted.  The hassle has been that I still have to weed through their crap. :banghead

Now, I have limited entries in the "comment" textarea to 200 characters.  That's plenty to leave a real comment, but prevents me from having to scroll through dozens of lines of spam. :good

There is a new JavaScript character counter to count characters as you type.  More than anything, this is just for the convenience of the guest because the server won't take entries any longer no matter what.  If you turn off JavaScript to get around it, it won't matter, because the server will reject it anyway.  The same goes for pasting info into the field.  You can get around the JavaScript, but not the server code. :D

I had a girlfriend at the time that didn't like peeps leaving "private" entries in the Guest Book. :rotflmao So the site was pretty much on autopilot for a few years.  The summer after we broke up, I signed up on HotBoat, got hooked, then started this board. :rotflmao

Thinking back, I started trading links with other sites like RiverToys.com.  About the same time, Chris Johnson from SoCalHotBoats contacted me about hosting my site.  So I signed up for that board and soon after RTJas got my posting on the top secret board.  I spent all my time there before I got sucked into HotBoat. :rotflmao

It looks like the spammers gave up on the guest book for the time being. :) I put some internal checks on the field lengths so excessive lengths won't be accepted. :good Evidently, some spammers copy the code for web forms, modify it by increasing maximum field lengths, then submit the form using their version. :eek It won't matter here, because of the internal checks. :good  Turning off JavaScript won't help them either. :laugh

That's funny because the very same girl that was against the guest book had special moments with me, not at the sand bar, but at one of the reed hidden coves on the Cali side. :D
