So...about half an hour aga, a collegue of mine was walking in from our parking lot where she had been carjacked at gun point. This literally happened about 30 seconds after a group of us walked in from lunch. Luckily she was not injured. She is an incredible volunteer who was just coming in in for a collaboration meeting.  But we're on lock down for the rest of the day and extra security for the rest of the week.

Seriously, folks, what is the world coming to! I work at a sexual assault center. We had clients witness this. As if they need to be re-victimized. We had 2 clients in therapy witness this and have gone into crisis. Our poor advocates are pulling their hair out!!!

Right now police are interviewing staff involved. so i have to go sit in with my assistant who was the first responder to the victim.

I'm ready for the day to be over...sleek, be ready with wine sweetie.

How sad, hope all will be ok for those involved innocently. Sadly, I read quite a bit about robberies and bank thefts this time of year. I think some get desperate around the holidays. :(

Sometimes the mental trama is the worst part of assaults :(  

UofA area is a bit ragged sometimes, our kid just got ripped off at his house yesterday and he's about 1/4 south of the Stadium.

Becky asked me last night what I would have done if it had been her that got car jacked...

That's exactly why I drive to work with the "King of Nines" sitting in the passenger seat (under my jacket of course)

They have extra security today and through the end of the week. In fact, when I got out of my car, the security guy got out of the truck and positioned himself so he could see me walk safely inside the building. It was actually kind of creepy...but good for the client and such.

I think what ticks me off is the fact that this guy could have done it to a sexual assault survivor coming in for services. that just pisses me off to no end. But in this line of work...most things are disturbing. we've had a some really bad cases the past week or so. You just have to roll with it.

Stay strong and don't let it effect your mind, stay conscience but not paranoid....
Holiday moods are wide ranging, especially in tougher times. I'd expect to see more incidences like this all over, hopefully not. One of my ex-employees wife ran a womens shelter for domestic abuse so I saw first hand a few times what these poeple suffer.

Not to jack this thread, but I'm officially on the hunt for scum bags. :guns My father-in-law just called me to tell me that their house was broken into this morning. :eek I'm really pissed. :angry  :pissed They trashed the place and stole some jewelry. To make things worse they stole my sons piggy bank that he had over at their house. They better hope I don't catch them. :guns  :guns  :fouet  :flamed

Seriously sorry to hear of something like this happening. I am from a small town on the Mississippi River. I like this site, it is interesting to see how you fine people get along, you are a fine group of people and close. Question is this, I realize your income is higher than the midwest, but reading these posts you can tell the pace and stress are above limits, so at what point do you stop putting up with the hazards of where you live and look for a small town,naturally taking a cut in income, or is that just not an option. I work in a larger city and hate it. I guess I have spent too much time runnin the ridge or on the water. Hope everyone comes out of this day ok..

Live for today, don't get caught, tomorrow may be further away than you think..
