PEORIA, Ariz. (Map, News) - A boat on Lake Pleasant northwest of Phoenix caught fire on Sunday, injuring three girls and a boy.
Maricopa County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Lindsey Smith-Macklin says the children had second-degree burns on the lower halves of their bodies, but that none of the injuries were life-threatening.
The children were two 12-year-old girls, a 12-year-old boy and a 2-year-old girl.
Peoria police spokesman Mike Tellef says the fire began at about 10 a.m. after the male owner of the boat ran his engine vent for only a minute before starting it.
Tellef says the vent, which clears out dangerous gas fumes, should run for about 10 minutes or longer.
He did not release the name of the boat owner, who he says is the father of one of the girls. He did not know how many people were on the boat altogether. God is Great, Beer is Good, and People are Crazy...... AUTO SAFETY HOUSE
