How cool is this?   (no, not this one   you gutterbrains! )
On Wednesday night, June 18th, step outside at sunset and look around. You'll see a giant form rising in the east. At first glance it looks like the full Moon. It has craters and seas and the face of a man, but this "moon" is strangely inflated. It's huge!
You've just experienced the Moon Illusion.
Today’s June full moon is the 4th of 4 full moons to fall between the March 20th equinox and the June 20th solstice. Normally, there are only 3 full moons in one season, and the 3rd of 4 full moons to fall in one season is sometimes called a blue moon. More popularly, the blue moon refers to the 2nd of 2 full moons to occur in the same calendar month.
The June full moon goes by the moniker of Rose Moon, Flower Moon or Strawberry Moon.

I love stuff like this.  And every time I look at a full moon I'm taken back to one of my favorite memories with my niece DeeDee.  I had always talked to her and her brother about the man in the moon and we'd always say hi to him.  One day when DeeDee had just started chaining words together, I was holding her as we looked out the window.  She saw the full moon and said, "Mon in the moooOOn?" (that's as close as I can get to how she said it).  It's just something that has always stuck with me.  "This is for all the friends I've known, this is for all the ones who've never left me alone. This is for all the ones I've lost along the way...thanks for being a part of today."
