Ferry ties up at new landing
STAFF REPORTS Friday, January 9, 2009 10:30 PM MST
Ease of parking and access to the dock are among the positive features of the new Dreamcatcher ferry boarding area on the Bridgewater Channel. The Dreamcatcher carries passengers to and from Lake Havasu City to Havasu Landing Casino on the California side of the lake.
The Chemehuevi Indian Tribe in October agreed to purchase two parcels of land in Lake Havasu City — one of which is now the ferry’s new dock.
The dock and adjoining approximate 1/16-acre of land the tribe purchased was the former home of Action Adventure Rentals, Blue Water Jet Boat Tours and Vessel Assist. Part of the deal was the tribe’s purchase of Action Adventure Rentals.
The second parcel is in the London Bridge Shopping Center, next to Cha-Bones restaurant.
The land attached to the dock is not part of the English Village property owned by Chris Read however parking is available in the English Village lot.
At the time of the purchase, Chemhuevi Tribal Chairman Charles Wood said he saw the tribe’s move to the mainland side of Lake Havasu City as a positive for the city and a possible “impetus to renew the English Village.”
The tribe has been working in conjunction with the Lake Havasu Marine Association in efforts to keep areas on both sides of the lake clean.
According to Wood, more than 300,000 people ride the ferry annually. "Damn you sure know how to fock things up."-GFR
