Can you explain that in English please?

English?.....don't dial the Microsoft support line if you want to hear English!

Basically there's a big bad bug out there that they've got a fix for but you have to update your Microsoft Windows OS and have a good up to date antivirus program to keep from getting the bug.

Some peeps didn't update and their computers got the bug, which in turn run like crap now and the bug can potentially take control of their computers.

I've had to clean 3 machines in the past two weeks, but not for this one.... :break

So my internet has been running pretty slow the past couple of days.  I don't have a virus on any of my computers though.

Come to find out the my niece's laptop IS infected though and she is connected to the same network.  Well this explains the slow internet. Her laptop is using most of the bandwidth! :break She told me that her anti virus expired some time ago. :break Her Dad told her to not use it until I can look at it. Earlier this evening I told her that I would look at it when I got home.  She said she would shut it down and not use it.  So when I came home a few hours later, it was fired up and the fan was spinning at 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 RPM's. :break Not only that, but she was connected to the internet. :eek  :beat

So I go to install AVG and notice that her other anti virus expired in 2007! :eek  :beat

The story takes a break here because she wanted to go to bed. :sleep

In the meantime, I went to the router settings and blocked her computer from the network.

Truth be known, they aren't totally internet deprived...they still have their iPhones....I think they are glued together.

The one really cool app I downloaded to our iPhones is Loopt.
It uses to GPS feature of the phone to show you where people in your list are.....I make the girls update it when they go out so that I don't have to call them and ask where they are....

..it will also give you the best directions to their location in case they call and need a ride home.

Kind of like an ankle bracelet! :good

Not gonna help much. Lots of stores on every corner, and she hits them all. Ah hell, even if I knew what store she was in, she'd be a few down the road. Only thing that slows her down, is the speed of the CC machine. :banghead

They have had that technology for years.  There is a product called Network Car that I was using 3 years ago on a company vehicle.  You could login to a website and see where I was in Realtime and where I've been and what time, for the past year or more.  Of course I found a way to disable it :D
That was one of the reasons I quit that job....No thanks to the Micro Manager Big Brother types.

UPDATE ON THIS VIRUS:

As of today, this virus, downandup, has infected over 9 million PC's.  It is complex in how it is written, but fairly easy to keep from getting it.  It is designed to spread primarily through thumb drives and similar devices when the AutoRun/AutoPlay initializes.
Easy way to keep from getting it is to turn OFF your AutoRun/Autoplay on you PC.  It is simple to do.  I'd recommend TweakUI to use to turn it off (Download for free at Microsoft.com).  If you already have the virus, email or call  me for a program to get rid of it.  You can find me at the website listed below
