I found a used hot tub that is perfect for the master bedroom of a house I'm renovating.  It doesn't have a hot tub now and needs something a fairly specific shape.  This tub fits perfectly.

Anyway, the tub is an acrylic tub with fiberglass reinforcement.  The color is marble white/cream/sand.  Someone spilled blue paint on it.  I have no idea if it's latex or alkyd, nor does the seller.

The tub also has some scratches but I'm not that worried about them.

Can I use oven cleaner on an acrylic surface?

I assume, worst case, I can sand the paint off.  There's quite a bit of paint, perhaps 1/2 cup, so it would take quite a bit of sanding.

By the way, the paint has been on there a long time.  It sounds like well over a year.

Anyone?

Get a #9 chisel and a ballpien hammer... :beat   After you F it up, re-paint it black... :D

Method 1 - Use a Bath Rubber
Bath rubbers work miracles on very superficial scratches and scuffs or when removing paint from the surface of a bath. You use a bath rubber just like a you'd use a pencil rubber for erasing pencil on paper. On very slight scratches and scuffs the bath rubbers rough surface will remove the damage and leave a nice shiny surface that needs no further finishing. If you have more serious damage to your bath you may want to use one of the other methods.

hmmmm you might trry a poultice of TSP to help soften it...or maybe use DAP® CAULK-BE-GONE® Caulk Remover, I know it's for caulk, but it softens latex - if that's the type of paint it might be.  :stupid

Once soft, scrape, and then maybe you'll need to wet sand and then polish.

Don't use thinner or acetone...not good for acrylic.  :beat

No.  I'm starting to think it will be too much work.  By the time I get the paint off and sand/buff out the scratches, I'll be into the thing for more labor than I'd like to be.

It's still there, though.  ... and I still need a tub.
