Hey Art, are you heading up to CFW this New Years? I'm gonna try and put the Biesemeyer back in the water for the first time since rebuilding on NYD and am figuring that I will be having alot of setup issues. It would be nice to have a Circle boat guy down there with lots of setup experience (like you) to answer all my questions....

I usually mess up the ride more when trying to adjust my plates :stupid

and I have a feeling that when the Whirlaway was installed (By Greg Gilday) I don't think he cut the propshaft down. I remember him mentioning something about it but it doesn't look to me like it was...

Guess I'll find out on New Years Day if the nose stays in the water....

Sorry Jim, it's too long of a haul for just a couple of days and besides, money is kinda tight right now and all the extra is going towards the GN project and got to get ready for Needles. Isn't Billy B going up he knows his shit, I thought he said he was????...

If you're plates need setting up, I can give you my settings to get you going and you can go from there, every boat is different so it may not be right on for yours but it's a start, let me know!..

I can't imagine him not cutting the shaft for the whirlaway, that would move the prop back an 1 1/2. Take a look under there and measure how far back the prop is from the strut. Moving the prop back that far will blow the tail right out of the water when you stand on it. Moving the prop a 1/4" makes a noticeable difference. If it was me and it wasn't shortened I would cut it before I took it out!...Just my .02!.... :rolleyes

Art, Well, I ran the Biesemeyer for the first time since rebuild at CFW on 12/31. It seemed to ride ok but I didn't really have enough time to really get on it because of carburetion and timing issues. I didn't touch the cav plate pedals at all either due to the back injury, but it seemed to be ok witout having too (?) That makes me think that maybe the propshaft is a bit long. I was able to get it to take a set at about 1/2 throttle (?) with no bouncing, etc. I'm thinking that at full throttle I may have too much in the water?

Oh well, I did have a blast driving the old girl again, even though it was for only a few minutes. The Mrs says that we are not going to sell the boat now unless it is a last resort and we absolutely have to. I am done working on it until spring time and then I'll get the motor dialed in and see what it can do then. :jumpie

Hell BBT a boat thats fun to drive and the wife is into it, a keeper for sure(the wife and the boat) :good

Jim, glad you got to get some seat time in it!. Did you check to see how far the prop was behind the strut?, you said you didn't think it was shortened when the whirlaway was put in?, if it wasn't then it would need to be moved up an 1 1/2. If it was cut then maybe it's something else, did you check the settings up against the handle??, maybe the plates were too low at that point???. Think you might make it to Needles?, be a fun week and can do a lot of tuning!...

BTW, you are one lucky dude, I'd say the Mrs is defenitly a KEEPER!.... :good

Art, I'll check the distance between the prop/strut in the morning. I have had alot of seat time with the boat when I used to own it (sold it to Serious Issues) but it didn't have enough power to run the gears. Now I got a full roller 468ci BBC with ported Merlin heads in it and I got some power behind it this time. It will be fun when it's all dialed in. Needles is a possibility, but we'll have to wait and see how this workers comp thing goes.

Yes, I do feel that I am very lucky. Not only does my wife share common interests as I do, she even helps work on the boats and can pull an engine by herself in about an hour! :jumpie

AND, on top of all of that, she is going back to school this month to train to be a Massage Therapist so she can give me a massage every night! :jumpie

Art, strut to the prop measures 1 3/4". In looking at the propshaft, part of it is shinier under the boat where it comes through the hull. Maybe he did cut it. Does 1 3/4" sound about right?

Jim, I'd say he didn't cut it, that shiny spot is from up in the shaft log, you probably got a shiny spot right behind the strut too. Take an 1 1/2" off for the whirlaway, that leaves a 1/4" from the strut which is perfect. I'd say you're driving the boat over big time. I would cut the shaft, that should free the boat up. You can always add spacers later to move it back if it's too much but I dought that you would have to move it back... :good

I'll cut the propshaft down 1 1/2" before taking it out again. I have the rest of Winter to do it anyways

Ya know AZKC, BAM Motorsports (the ones promoting the CFW Races) are a big promotor in the area of PWC and Motocross races. They are gonna have classes for PWC's if ya have one

And Art, I'm waiting on a reply from the promoter if they are gonna set some buoys or not. Hope so....that would be GREAT :good

Wow 10 1/4" and you're still driving the boat over huh, you definitly need to cut the shaft. Those are "K" boat plates. They have them long because K's have a tendancy to drive over this way it would keep the nose up better. Mine are 7 1/2" and I kinda wish I would have made them 7"!.. :good

So Art, how far should I cut them? I'm thinking that my motor is (or will be when dialed in) putting out about 800hp +/-. I'm running a 10 degree casale with lightened 22's, the prop is a Menkens but don't remember the size/pitch. I'm not planning on racing with it....just playing around at the lake. Maybe cut it to 7"? Or would it be easier to put a 2000 hp blown K-Boat motor in it

(Hint; If you tell me the later of the two, it would go a long ways into helping to talk the Mrs into a blown motor

)

Whoaa slow down there bud do one thing at a time, the first thing you need to do is cut the shaft and put the prop where it belongs and try it. Sounds like you have enough power to hold a set so just take an 1 1/2 of the shaft and try it and go from there. If you do both at one time and the boat handles like shit you won't know why and it will put you farther away from solving the problem!. Too bad you're so far away, I could cut and key your shaft in 30 minutes and you'd be on your way!... :good

If it was a "K" boat, I'd say put it back to the way it's supposed to be, it's probably heavy and it needs the power just like mine, it was a "K" and it lacks the power big time!...Now I'd better not get on the MRS shit list for saying this!!.... :laugh
