Anyone with  0 clearance for draining Engine Oil have any suggestions as to a trick procedure?

In the past I have taken the boat to a franchise automotive oil change shop because most of the time they have a Vacuum operated pump out system.

I also have the Drill motor Pump which is the biggest POS on the market. I found in order to get the oil out you need to get the motor oil to operating temperature. This in turn softens the plastic tubes which end up vacuum locking or the occasional tube with Eject and then you have a nice hot oil bath on your hands.

I have been thinking about installing a Valve in the drain plug with a plastic hose attached for draining Via Gravity. I am concerned that it could be accidentally opened from vibration or physical contact.

BTW my plug is on a 10 qt pan mounted horizontally on drivers side.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I use one of these...hook the leads to the battery ...and It drains all 15 qts out of my boat ...in minutes thru the dipstick tube with good plastic tubes

West Marine has a Pump called "Oil Boy Fluid Extractor" not sure who its makes by but it Creates a Vacuum which sucks the Oil out you can go though your Dip Stick tube it hold up to 5 qts It works great for me and I have a 14 qt Pan it runs about $60.00 :)

Rex Marine sells a drain hose that you permanently connect to the pan. It has a cap on the end instead of a valve so you don’t have to worry about it accidentally draining. When it comes time to drain it you just run the hose out your plug hole and remove the end plug. I have one on my boat and it works really well.

Thanks, I like the Idea of being able to gravity drain the system, this would be good to flush with a couple of quarts too.

Just remember that those go onto the existing drain in the pan which makes the hose pretty small, unless you get the oil really hot so that's it's thin, it will take forever to drain. I seen one take 24 hrs to drain once!.. :rolleyes

Yep...I've went through that route myself.  Unplug it in the morning, and go back the next day to finish up :rolleyes   It goes a little quicker if you shoot some air pressure down the dipstick tube and block off the breathers :eek  :good  :D

That doesnt sound like fun. I can see it now, I pull the plug come out the next morning and have a nice long oil slick down the driveway becasue I over flowed the pan or it started flowing in another direction and missed the pan as oil likes to do. :banghead
