OK, Art and Jim, what's the deal with trannies in V-drive cruisers??  I realize that would alow you to have reverse and be able to start the motor without turning the prop.  They are advertised as Turbo 400's and such by Art Carr and the other big overhaulers.  I've found a project Schiada for a killer price, but I'm trying to figure out how much it would take to get it going.  

Are these any different than car transmissions??  Are they modified to be only one speed forward, or do the shift??

There's also a nice Eliminator daycruiser for sale down by the Tucson Mall, at one of those no-name used car places.  It's yellow, clean looking boat.   :good

Sleek Im sure ART can help you I know some of the guys have 1st Gear locked out because its such a  low gear and they still run though a Casale V-Drive.My buddy just ran in 2nd & 3rd Gear he would use 1st only when Idling around :) I know this isnt the help you needed but i'm sure the other guys can fill you in better :)

The TH400 has been around since the big block, it's the same unit that comes out of a car or truck, the only difference is you use a direct drive instead of a torque converter. As far as modifications goes, it's the same as you would do in a race car, you have all gears!. Some like to remove the park deal to remove weight but I like it for taking off the prop!. :good

I just found it sniffing around.  No motor, trannsmission, or interior, but I can take care of that stuff myself.  I'm gonna call tonight and see if it has the V-drive, cav plates, and that sort of stuff.  1974 22' River Cruiser.  

The price is way low, so I'm not getting my hopes up, but it might just be one of those wife-says-get-rid-of-it deals.  :good

5500.00 for the bare hull (new paint) and trailer.  I really don't think the guy knew what he had after talking to him on the phone.  I kept asking about the hardware (v-drive, cav plates, stearing, ect...) that went with the boat and he kept talking about the interior pieces... hmmm.
