OK, so I'm surfing for timing sets for the FE and I was checking out good ole E-bay to see what was available.

I found this ad for Rollmaster timming sets

So I did a little search and alot of the big engine builders use these. They are Aussie made. Any feedback on these?? The look trick and use billet steel for the sprockets.

OK, next question.

I took the rocker arm assy. apart the other day to clean them up. There is some wear on the shafts, but nothing a little polishing won't cure. I was looking at the stands and was thinking about changing them out. I found an ad for billet aluminum stands.

This guy also lists adds for billet spacers (which I'm going to run something like that and ditch the springs between the rocker arms), as well as new rocker shafts themselves, and billet end caps. I would guess these parts help on high-reving motors as it looks like the stock parts can move quite a bit under heavy loads.

So, my FE experts here at HD's... you think I am on the right track, or should I keep shopping??

Oh yeah, I'm going to splurge and go with E-brock heads for the boat, my old ones ended up cracked and it would cost damn near what new heads cost to fix them.

Well looks like you're going all out on this!. That's some badass parts, a little overkill unless you plan on running it real hard though!. If you're going with this stuff, why use the old junk shafts, if there's wear they won't fit right and they are soft, he has some nice ones at a decent price!. Yes by all means get spacers, the springs are good for daily driver stuff and that's about all, the spacers keep the rockers in line and they won't move at all!. Keep the springs though, they are perfect for for degreeing a cam and checking clearances, been using them for years!..Another part that is mandatory is a pump drive, the stock one don't cut it!..Well this is good for starters!..

I guess that's my real question, how much is to much? I don't mind a little overkill here and there, but I don't want to throw my money away either.

I found a couple places that sell new shafts (OE replacemant) and for the price I'm going to at least buy those, if not go big and buy the ones made by this guy.

What got me thinking about those pedestals was that the shaft has got to be harder than the pedestal and if it's worn, then the pedestals will be as well.

I am staying with the OE rocker arms though, for now. They all appear to be in good shape, and servicable. A set of Harlland Sharp roller rockers are on the list of future upgrades.

At this very moment I'm looking at new shafts, pedestals, and spacers.

Sleek I run a Rollmaster on my 514 and that's all Eddie runs on his engines also.I ran mine on my 460 for 5 yrs and when we rebuilt the engine to convert it to a 514 it was one of the only parts that I re-used because ti showed no wear and absolutly no stretch.They are as good as any Crane.Cloyes or other billet timing sets but far less in price.

The Rollmaster is the shit as long as it has an Iwis(german) chain, otherwise they're just like any other one!.. The Cloyes used to be top of the line back in the day but sinse they sold out they are junk, I wouldn't run one on the street!.

Why would you want to use those wore out non adjustable rockers with all that nice new stuff you're getting, don't forget they been on there the same amount of time as the rest of the stuff that you're replacing!.. And besides if you put adjustables on there, you will gain ratio from 1.73 to 1.76 which will give more lift on your cam. When I raced my Fairlane, I changed over and gained two tenths!.. You don't need the high dollar stuff, PAW has the factory style 427 rockers for $175 for a set and they are more than adequate!.. :good

I'm also am going to order a new Dooley oil pan since all I've got now is a front sump car pan. Those things are feakin' spendy.... :eek

Since the motor is facing the right way for circles, why don't you save a bundle and pick up a 427 pan with the windage tray, that's all I ever used in mine and never had a problem. Unless you plan on making single buoy turns at 100 you don't need anything more!.. :good

Yep, it is a deep sump with a baffle and crank scraper!.. :good

That is a Ford part, that hasn't been made in ages but there's a shit load out there, it was an over the counter part and a lot of people with 390-428 Failanes and Mustangs replaced the stock pan with one of those and a windage tray, go see MacPheeters, I bet he has a few laying aroung!..Oh and don't forget the pickup!...If he don't have one check out this forum, somebody will have one!.. :good

If that's the case, I'm willing to bet that's what I've got. Mine doesn't have the crank scraper, but it's baffaled and I've got the windage tray. :cool

Well if it don't have a scraper then you don't have a 427 pan unless somebody butchered it up!. How many quarts does it hold?? It should have 7 with the filter!.. :good

Well, I've got a stock one then.... not sure how much it holds, I drained about 4 gal. of milkshake out of it...

I lurk on the FE forums, I'll ask around and see what I can come up with. Ã‚Â :good
