OK, I'm back.

Got the Cutlass to pass the sniffer test, who says you can't run big cams and not pass???

And that was without cheating, no forced vacum leaks or alcohol in the fuel (just the mechanic :drink

).

Mr. Taxman is dictating how much I can spend right now and how soon I can build the FE motor. I've got enough to build the short block, but the top end is going to have to wait till I get my tax bill paid off.

The crank had to get turned and since that was discovered, new rod bolts all around. Arizona Crank is doing all the machining and balancing, should be done late next week, we'll see.

Since we're in a holding pattern on the engine, I'm going to drag the boat over in a couple weeks and fix some of the little (I hope) things that need attention. I'll be pulling the cover off the Casale, and solve the ratio mystery. Maybe sand down some of the rough spots in the wood and varnish/seal it for this year at least. There's a few :rolleyes

places in the paint that could use a little sanding as well. I want to put aircraft style turnbuckles on the stearing cables as well.

So I do have enough to keep myself busy this spring.

Right now we're shooting for a late May, early June completion date.... but with my planning, that probably means late summer... :beat

Was kinda wondering what happened, looks like you have enough to keep ya busy alright

You don't need to pop the case to find out what gears you have, but it is a good idea to look around in there and check everything and give it a new batch of oil!. :good

Sleek where do you live? I have a set of rebuilt 390 heads. They need to be taken apart and redone again since they have been sitting in the shop for the last 6 yrs. 1.50 per head + shipping...

What casting number are they??? Stainless Valves??? Details man, details.

What exactly needs to be done to them, another complete valve job, or could a guy get away with doing a little lapping and be good to go??

My Contact Info Use the cell since I will be in the shop.

I will pull them out tomorrow and take a good look at them. They were rebuilt and were on the 427 when we got them. Since they were not 427 correct we decided to spring for some edelbrock heads and had those ported. I assume they are a stock valve. They are 390 heads. Nothing special. They have both exhaust bolt patterns. Give me a call tomorrow on the cell.... say noonish. By then I will have them apart for a looksie. And I will look up the casting #'s also.

Got all the parts and pieces back from AZ Crank. Turns out I had one rod that was bent :rolleyes

, so they kindly dug around and found a replacemant.

All the rods have new hardware now and new bushings, the crank is pretty and polished as well.

Everything was balanced, so now I'm ready to start building an engine... :good

Ordered the cam today from Info... and I'm going to pimp a little for him as well. But first, a change in plans. I ended up getting a Comp solid lifter cam, a hare more duration and a little more lift, but the computer puts the output pretty close to the same as the Crower. But I'm planning a little for the future as well, since a set of E-brock aluminium heads are in the works. The Comp cam should flat make that little FE scream with a decent set of heads. Comp Magnum Mech, grind #33-245-4 .571/.571 and 236* duration at .050 and a 110* lobe seperation.

OK... back to pimpin'. Mortiz Machine/Info has beat Summit and Jegs every time I've asked for a price quote, and ground shipping usually comes out to less than the 7.95 that Summit charges. Tulsa is a 2 day UPS ride from here, so I should get my stuff by the end of the week.

If anyone is buying parts for engines, give Info a try along with everyone else... I haven't been disappointed yet.
