Going out for a fun filled day when our boat would not start. (I know, it's a boat) While on the ramp at Windsor Beach went through the mental check-off list of standard problems. Last thing I thought of was filters (all brand new that A.M.), pulled the water seperating fuel filter and peeked inside and it looked like milk. Have never had this happen before. Proceeded to drain and re-prime filter with fresh fuel and ran like a champ the rest of the day on the same tank. Fast forward a week and the same damn thing happened at Lake Els. on Sunday while using the other tank. Fuel in the tanks looks clean and is fresh (with stabilizer), no leaks, no unusual odors, no clue. Ran like shit for the first couple minutes then cleaned up.

Are you putting anything else in the gas besides a stabilizer??? Sounds like there's something that may not like water if you're getting a milk shake only in the filter?. What does that milky stuff smell and feel like????.. :stupid

How old are the tanks? Ever pressure test them?
Might have a hole, any gas in the bilge? :stupid

I used to have a dune buggy with an aluminum tank. One time I got some water in there, and my fuel filter did the same thing. I dont know if that helps, but I thought I would throw it out there.

As far as the tanks, they are the original tanks from 1998. No smell of gas in the bilge other than the crap that I spilled. The boat was outside for a couple of weeks (they also happened to be the wetest) a few months ago. The tanks were drained though before I put it in service this year. The consistancy is that of fuel or water but it is white in nature (not unlike fat free milk). Thanks for the input guys I appreciate it. :good

Started in the driveway to warm and change the oil without any problems. It is probably going to be one of those things that may or may not ever occur again but I will never know exactly what caused it. :angry

Another tid bit on buying gas, a lot pf places don't clean their tanks out and there's always water in them. Water is heavier than gas so it settles to the bottom but when a tanker drops a load, it stirs it up big time and until it settles you end up getting water in your tank, been there done that :angry

The bad thing is unless you see a tanker in there or just leaving you have no idea when a load was dumped.

True. With the summer driving season just about here, the frequency of deliveries will increase and just stir it up some more. Anyone ever use alcohol (not the drinking kind either :beer

) to clear their tanks? I have never done it and have reservations about doing it, but I know air brake systems use alcohol evaporators. What ratio and what percent?
