I am already thinking about changing boats again and would like to draw from some exp. I know that several of you have had different boats so I like to hear what you think. I love the o/b tunnel but, weight is the enemy and I have to seat 6 (small or otherwise). Anyhow I was thinking about an older jet or v-drive around 22ft and open bow. I like to ski and the kids want to tube so I would like something that planes quick.

What is your primary use for it?
Is it mostly inner tubing & wake boarding?
Are you looking to by used (usually someone elses problem) or new?
Where do you usually boat?

Pulling the kids on the tube (painfully slow cuz they're young), skiing and riding arnd the lake. No wakeboarding yet. I plan on buying used. Az lakes - Pleasant and Roosevelt.

B.B. that's sweet. That is pretty close to what I had in mind but, I have never had a v-drive so I don't know the ins and outs of them. What I would really like to know is how good the hulls and the quality of the older boats. I.E. back in the late 70's and early 80's Schiada made the best v-drive minidaycruisers followed by....... I heard a lot of names but I am not sure how good they really were. Some of the makers that I associate with quality are Schiada, Eliminator, Nordic, Sleekcraft and Hallet. What do you think???

In my opinion, Sanger is top shelf when it comes to excellent, durable hulls and they really know how to put a v-drive boat together. :good

Biesmeyer, Campbell, Eliminator, Hawaiian and Sleekcraft are also excellent daycruisers, but as with any older boat it really comes down to how it was used, abused and cared for.

GoFastRacer is the board expert on this topic and when he eventually chimes in, I'd take his suggestions as :bowdown

gospel.

My advise would be to ride in a couple different hulls to see what you like.

If you'll be up at Rosy next weekend, I'll take you for a spin in the Eliminator.

She pops up on plane pretty quick, though it's not like an 18' ski-boat. It's got a pretty mild 454, but I shouldn't have any problem skiing behind it.

It's a very smooth riding hull. It looked like a washing machine on high when we were out, and the old boat just sailed right through it.

Just for ease of use and safety a jet is the way to go. But you do use a bit more gas and slow driving speeds for small children tubing may be an issue. Its according to where it will run without losing plane. Mine probably falls of plane around 20-25 mph.

That 25 foot Sleekcraft was pretty cool. Got a nice cabin to get out of the sun and catch a nap. :good

As a general rule, yes. But when your pulling tubes and skiing, they all drink a bunch of gas.
