Just bought a 78 eliminator jet, the engine fires up everytime and runs really good.  The boats in great shape inside and out and sits atop a brand new trailer!!! love it!   the problem lies at full throttle.....
it runs through the rpm range great and sits at full for an average of 1 maybe two minutes before it dies......dont know if the velocity tunnel intake it had on it was forceing too much air into the fuel mixture at speed or if the increase in fuel draw was the problem but switched to air filter and scoop and thinking about replacing the fuel pump.. any suggestions?

Just curious: does your fuel tank draw from the top, or the bottom of the tank? Do you have a mechanical, or electric fuel pump? Does it seem like it is starving for fuel when it dies, or is it choking itself out when it dies? -DD

Fuel pump, fuel filter, or possible the float levels are set to low. Start with the simple stuff. :break

Putting a fuel pressure gauge on it might help figure out whats up. :)

fuel pressure guage runs 7-9 psi i think one of the diaphrams in the carb is gone i get a little fuel on top of the intake when its running

Your fuel pressure is right where it should be. Holley's are very sensitive carbs, and difficult to get dialed in just right. Personally, I would drop kick it for an Edelbrock. However, if you decide to stick with the Holley, I would take it to someone reputable, have it rebuilt, check the floats, the diaphrams, etc. Good luck!!! -DD

Sounds like you're running out of fuel, you say 7-9lbs but what is it when it dies??? :stupid Before spending money I'd do a couple of tests, check the fuel level in the bowls at idle and make sure they're set right, then run it till it dies and check the level it should be the same, if there's no fuel then it's a fuel delivery issue, make a run with the fuel caps open and see if that makes a difference, if not then change the filter!. What kind of fuel pump do you have??, are you running a regulator?? are your lines adequate size???. That diaphfram is the accelerator pump, just tighten it and make sure the bowls are tight also. Holley's are simple and I doubt very much that it's a carb problem, unless they need to be rebuilt!..

What size fuel lines are you running???  I ran into a similar problem w/ a guy racing his family ski boat.  THe boat was shutting down at 3/4 track.  Dual quads, fed with two 5/16" copper fuel lines, that split off of one 3/8 hose coming from the pump.  I yanked all that crap out, and ran 1/2" from the pump, and split off w/ two 3/8" hoses.  Next time I saw him, he had a 4 ft tall trophy in his hand.   :D

Kind of what I was thinking.  Also where is this guage at in the line?  At the pump or close to the carb?

Yup.  Most people don't know this, but copper has an oil oxidizer in it, that will form a sludge on the inside wall of the tubing when exposed to oil or fuels.  Copper for fuel and oils are very much bad.   :eek

Sounds like you are running out of gas.  Try a new fuel filter then a fuel pump.  And as it was said.  Make sure your fuel line is big enough.   :pirate
