Back in the day I ran truck rods with good bolts 7500, but I also changed them out quite often. But back then all you had was Carillo and Oliver, and unless you were rich, that wasn't going to happen. With the availability of aftermarket stuff and low prices today, it don't make sense to run stock rods, by the time you detail a set of stock rods and put good bolts in them, you'll have just as much in them as a set 4340 rods and you'll still have GM junk!.. Stock rods will last a while at 5500, but the part that hurts them is grabbing air and rpm's are to the moon sometimes, that shortens the life of them big time!..
Pistons involve re balancing and honing the cylinders for clearance, cast and forged take different piston to wall clearance!..
