So I took my 2002 F150 to the dealer only because there was a recall on a switch that shuts off the cruise control when you apply the brakes.  The truck is 12 years old!  Anyway, it was free, so I did it.

While they were at it, they told me that my serpentine belt needed to be replaced. Having done this myself already, I asked how much they would charge to put one on. $180, parts and labor. :jawdrop What? could you repeat that please? $180, parts and labor.

Of course I said never mind, I'll do it myself. The highest priced belt at a local parts store was $36.99 even though they had some cheaper ones.  I paid $27.74 for the $36.99 belt because I bought it online and picked up at the store. With a torque wrench to release the belt tensioner, installation time was less than 5 minutes. BAM! :good

BTW, I checked the price of a genuine Motorcraft belt online at Ford. It was $61.80. So labor would have been how much? Over $100?

No wonder why dealers have a reputation for being expensive.

The dealers are the most expensive shop in town. I had my Tacoma in for a recall a few moths ago. While there I had them do an oil change. That was 40 bones. So they go over the truck and tell me that the spark plugs need to be replaced. Keep in mind this is ans '07  and at the time had 39.000 miles on it(long story why it has low mileage). They also tell me that they need to be changed every 30k.  :eek  Got to be kidding right. OK so how much. 160 bones.  :laugh   :finger  I'll do it myself. Got plugs from amazon for 40. Truck has 45k on it now and I haven't had time to change them. I can't wait to get them out and get a look at them. Just by looking it might take me an hour and a half if I take my time. I'll let you know when I get it done.

Well, at $85 an hour for labor it adds up quick, and no matter what it's always minimum 1 hour  :beat What's amazing though is I'll only charge 20$ an hour to do it "right" but I'm a rip off..  :banghead  :finger

Plugs for $40, what do you have a V-20 in there. :eek  :stupid

:rotflmao  I wish. It has the v6. I got NGK's.  Them things are not cheep for the new systems. Amazon was the cheapest I could find them. Even with the shipping.

Few years back I did my chevy. 55 for plugs, AC's, iridium's, and 85 for wires, MSD 8.5's. Burn's my a$$ that they were all about 10 inches long. So far I haven't seen them produce any gold.  :beat

At the time I was told they were the best. Best for what I don't know but I haven't seen any difference in running or performance. not sure I would do them again
