Since I know NOTHING about mechanical stuff, and readily admit it, I thought I'd ask the group about some minor upgrades on our tow vehicle.

It's a 2003 F-150 SuperCrew. Ã‚Â Looking for suggestions on aftermarket mufflers to help it breathe easier. Ã‚Â Also, would a K&N Air Filter be worth the expense? Ã‚Â Maybe tweak the suspension as well.

It's pretty much mama's car to run around town the majority of the time. Ã‚Â Any recommendations are appreciated.

I have a 2002 F-150 with a 5.4 liter. I haven't done the full blown K&N filter kit yet, but I do use a K&N replacement filter in the meantime. I, also, put a Flowmaster on and with both improvements, have noticed a little better performance.

I did the same thing to my 1989 F-350 with a 7.5 liter.

I put too many miles on my F-150 in the 3 years I've had it so I'm driving the old truck alot now.

It's a gas hog, but it's fun to drive. :good

BTW, Flowmaster has a bunch of different series of mufflers depending on how much performance you want. The have some cool demos on their website that show the differences. :cool

Get a K&N filter deal and a Flowmaster exhaust system for your application and besides you can't beat the sound!.. :good

I've got a hook-up here in the 909 with the local Speedway shop, and the filter thing had also been recommended.

I'm ready for the 15k service and will ask the dealer to look at the suspension (it's free every 12k). It just seems the ride is "sloppy", not nearly as "firm" as it was new. I know, it's a FORD....wadda ya expect...!!! :laugh

Going out the I-40 with the boat this past year really pounded on the truck. That road ain't the best, I'll tell ya..!!

Go with the cold air intake and the flowmaster 40 series muffler. It will breath a little better and sound cool to. Ive got a 2002 ford excursion with a v10 tows my 27ft boat great.

It looks like everyone in here likes a loud exaust,but another option is magna-flow, it will give you good performance without all the noise.

Use the Delta Flow 50 series 3 chamber with a crossover. The 40 series is a 2 chamber and it is a lot louder, the 50 series will flow just as good on a tow vehicle and it will be a lot quieter but still have that cool sound!.. :good

The 70 serires Flowmasters sounds stock and flow better. I've put a couple of their systems on my vehicles and have been able to do it in my driveway, all the pipes and hangers are in OE locations.

The best bang for your buck though, would be a Hypertech programmer.

That could be good and bad depends on the application, you have to have a certain amount of back pressure or it will hurt performance!..

You're saying the 70 series flow more than the 50 series, if you don't have a BIG motor, it could be too big of muffler!.

Hey Shue.....I had Banks set-up my E350 Super Duty - V10 with their cat-back system (bigger SS pipes and free flow exhaust), Otto-mind chip and trans command and the K & N filter. I made a custom composite cold air chamber for the intake here at my shop since there is absolutely none availible on the market.

I realized a minimum 10% increase in gas mileage and the thing goes over the hill like a bat out o' hell with the boat in tow! :good

The guys over at Banks were a pleasure to deal with.

I pulled the invoice. $1,612.96, installed at the Banks shop. (you should see that shop!

I realize I'm gonna hear a few "shoulda, coulda, woulda's", :beat

but it was the best price I got after a couple of call backs by them.

I'm very pleased with the improvement in performance, mileage and the overall job. And that's all that counts. :jumpie

Now I'm see-sawing about the lift.

If you'd just simply swap out your stockers for some Chevy mufflers........You'd be on the right track.........continue this process until you own a Chevy!
