It's an inline five, same as the Colorado. I was a little concerned but I drove it for a day and towed my boat around and it did great. Some people complain about the lack of power, but I don't think they've ever driven one. It won't set any speed records, but I have other toys to do that. Off road, its absolutely incredible right out of the box. On the road its very smooth and comfortable. I considered an H2 but it wouldn't fit in my garage, didn't get very good gas mileage (I'm getting 20 mpg) and frankly, I couldn't afford a new one so I would have had to find a decent used one.
It's too bad GM is having some tough times right now because they are building some great cars. The H3 is selling like mad, the new Tahoe has just hit the dealerships and looks fantastic, and their trucks have really improved overall. This coming from someone who's been driving Fords for the last 7 years, Chevy's before that. Hope they can bail themselves out. I feel bad for the retirees and the hit they're gonna take. I've only got a couple of years to go before retirement myself (gotta love that 20 year retirement) and I'm pretty well set. They thought they were and now it looks like they're screwed.
Political sidenote: Why is it that most of us have to struggle all of our lives to get to retirement and then possibly get screwed, and our political leaders need to only serve two years for a full retirement, which they get even if they're removed from office because of a criminal conviction? (stepping off soap box now) Carbon Monoxide poisoning kills boaters.  Take the time to learn about it and how to avoid it.
