Massive more HP and torque, same MPG and a colossal amt of improvements.
This according to Automotive Engineering Mag. |
The truth is they could stop today with the HP and torque wars. most trucks have more of both than the rest of the drivetrain can handle.
International uses the dt444. That is a 7.3 powerstroke in trucks rated up to 26000lbs with no problems and that is only rated at 235 hp 500ft lbs torque.
the new 3/4 and 1 ton trucks rated over 350 hp / 600 lbs are so over kill for the rest of the truck, Brakes, axles, drivelines, ect.
I would rather buy a truck with the rest of the parts built to servive closer to what the engines are rated to live.
I have a 2000 excursion with a class 5 hitch, I towed a 14000lb "bobcat" style skid steer to parker with no trouble keeping up on the freeway and thats the 7.3.
The big numbers sell trucks, and I bought one. IMO chevy has the best overall package today, engine and trans. I would buy less horsepower if some one was pushing a more durable drivetrain.
WoW maybe this should have gone in the RANT thread let me take a breath and calm down
Just my uneducated opinion
