What kind of amplifier should I run with 2 - 10" subs that are rated at 600w each with dual voice coils and 4 ohms?

How much do you want to spend?
How are you going to wire the subs?
I'm assuming this is a 12 volt system, how much juice do you have? Will you use a cap? :stupid

With dual voice coils you will need a 4 channel amp...  If you run them in series(+-+-) you will drop the impeedance(Cant spell)(Making the amp work much harder)  and negate the advantage to dual voice coils... With two speakers and dual coils you in effect have 4 speakers.    

Is the 600W peak or RMS wattage?  What brand and model?  


I used to install stereos and sell them.. So I might be able to help! But I have been outta it for a while..

I didn't want to spend more than $400 for an amp and all I could find was a Kicker ZX 1000 for $388.  But I didn't know if that would have sufficient power to run 2 or if I have to buy to amps.

I was getting the 2 - 10" SE series.
I'm probably gonna add another battery to my boat so that it will have 3 batteries total.

I think you might have that reversed....I have a pair of JBL Touring series 15" with dual 4ohm voice coils, the book here says:
To wire the woofer in a series configuration, only one jumper is used, and it connects the two inside terminals together. When the amplifier is connected to the two outside terminals, the woofer will present an 8-ohm load.

Wiring them in parallel drops then to 2ohms. :D

But with a four channel amp you could wire each voice coil separately to it's own channel.

Are you putting these in a box? If so, what kind? :confused

:stupid  Now I'm really confused.  :confused  

I'm putting it in a seperate sealed box.  I have someone else whos gonna be doing the installation for a fee of course.  I justed needed to buy the equipment because he charges way to much $$.

If you are going to mount those speakers in a sealed box or two sealed boxes, you will need a fairly powerful amp.

If you use a sealed and ported box (like the one the speaker maker sells) you'll get more bass with less amp.

Check out this amp. Won't break the bank , but it sounds pretty good. You'll get 200 watts to each speaker with the amp bridged:

Well, that's kinda misleading the way speaker manufacturers rate speakers. I went to their site and can't find if thats RMS or peak.
Anyway, as CE pointed out, bridged you'll get 200w to each speaker. It should be pretty darn loud without distortion.
Worst case, pop for two amps.

As I said before, the cabinet will make a big difference the way these will sound.

Maybe Roz will show up around here and make a recommendation. ;)
