I've been thinking about getting a Motorola Droid X and the service is provided by Verizon.  I checked their coverage map for Lake Havasu City and while it looked great for phone calls, the data coverage was listed as "1X Roaming."

I asked a Verizon rep and he told me "If you can make a call you can surf the Internet - it's just not as fast as 3G."

I know AT&T has 3G coverage for Lake Havasu - Is Verizon a viable option or is the "1X Roaming" speed too slow?

Doe anyone have any input?  Thanks in advance.   :)

I can't tell you how good the service is in Havi, but I can tell you that the Droid X is the best phone I've ever had.  Some of the features won't work without 3G though, mostly streaming video.

Well, don't have a clue about the Droid, but I think Verizon is hard to beat, we've tried different services and everyone between Parker and Havi had a problem in different areas making/receiving calls, have Verizon now for 2 years and very good reception no matter where we go, that's all I know!...

If you are willing to pay Verizon's extorsion fees, the service is great in the rural areas.  Act quick though, I've heard their unlimited data pricing is going away soon.

Thanks for the information.   :)

I've read a lot of great things about the Droid X and would really like to get one while they're on sale.  I guess I could always buy one and then return it if the data speeds in Havasu were so slow the device was useless.
