Hey guys,
Just to let you know that I'm in the process of overhauling the HD Forums. The goal is to get it HTML5 compliant and to make it mobile friendly. There is actually a second installation of this board at a new URL and that's where I'm doing all of the changes. It uses the same database, though.
It's going to be a big job that will take a long time, but I'm excited with the progress I've already made with it. :good

UPDATE:

It's coming along but I think it will be another 4 weeks or so before it's done.

Here's a screenshot of how it looks so far on my phone. The menu is on overlay on a small screen but shows at all times on a desktop. Certain non-essential elements don't show on a small screen but do on a larger screen. The same URL will be used for all versions. The features change as your browser window size changes. For that reason, the header and menu items will look a little different on a desktop but the guts of the board will look very similar.

While you guys are at Desert Storm, I am making steady progress on this project. Avatars, images in posts and images in signatures scale down accordingly. There's still a ton to do though.

Many years ago, emoticons and any text formatting options were inserted at the cursor position. At some point, when the code became obsolete, we lost that. Since then, it's been going to the end of the post.

Now that the code is updated on the new version, you can insert this stuff anywhere you want, after the fact without cutting and pasting. It goes 2 steps further, as well. You'll be able to highlight any text, after the fact, and hit a formatting button and the highlighted text will be wrapped in it. Also, key letters will work if you like to use those. For example, while you are typing, you'll be able to press Alt + b to Bold the text without having to use your mouse.

The shadows and glows will work again. If you recall, many used those to alter their titles. Those all show in the new version.

UPDATE:

The project is progressing at a steady pace. The most highly used pages on the board are done. Now it's mostly the most seldomly used pages the need attention. Examples would be profiles, control panel, statistics page, sponsors page, etc.

We are still on target for approximately two more weeks.

These are the colors on the new post page rolling out in a few days:
Gold, Goldenrod, Dark Goldenrod, Dark Khaki, Green Yellow, Lime Green, Forest Green, Dark Green, Aquamarine, Cyan, Deep Sky Blue, Blue, Dark Blue, Orange, Dark Orange, Orange Red, Red, Maroon, Deep Pink, Tomato, Coral, Purple, Indigo, Burly Wood, Sandy Brown, Chocolate, Antique White, White, Silver and Black.

These can be selected from a pulldown, but you can use any of the standard 140 colors if the one you like isn't listed. This will mostly be used by people decorating their titles.
