BBT,
I am taking an alternative non-narcotic pain reliever called Toradol(Ketorolac=generic) --ask your Doc about it and see if it could benefit you in any way.  I've only been taking 'em for a week or so. They gave me the Vicodins too but they make me sick or on the  verge of sick.
Hope all goes well, you recover as fast as you possibly can  and remember the doors will open in front of you---maybe not this week but they will...Chin up dude. :)

Ziggy, they did have me on a non narcotic painkiller for a while called Ultram.  But, it had limited success and I had frequent bouts with severe/crippling pain.  So they switched me to what I am on now and although I am constantly tired and frequently don't feel good (Nauseated), I rarely feel the "crippleing" pain that I had while on the others.  They have also had me on tylenol/codeine, Darvocet, Vioxx, and Flexeril.  AT one point in time, I was taking the Vicodin, Vioxx, Flexeril, and Zoloft all at the same time.  That's 4 pills that have the "Drowsy" caution on them and believe me, I was drowsy all the time.  And still am.....

I feel for you, totally. I'm just dealing with a painful kidney stone but you've got it bad with back problems--IMO the worst thing one could have go wrong.....The medical world is still learning about backs and prodominetly the nervous system. My brother is a PharmMD, or Dr. of Pharmacy persay, yet he is one that really doesn't advocate alot of drugs if it can be alleviated. Your system must be really twisted taking all those....mine is all goofed up and its only been a week or so.
Surgery, as bad as it may sound, may be your best alternative to stabalize your spine...know a few peeps that have had it and are glad they finally made that choice----Work that Insur. hard to get you fixed up right....sorry to hear of your pain and I'll pray for your quick recovery.
