Yeah, you paint it on the inside to keep it shiny, and so the paint doesn't scratch or come off when you crash.  It's a Christmas gift for my brother's HPI Savage.  I've done better, but I'm out of practice too.  Funny thing is, I can paint an external surface like this to save my life.  I'm so used to doing it "backwards".
