The boat can be registered where it's used most.   You can register it in Arizona even with a California address, as long as the boat is used the majority of the time in Arizona...Havasu and the Colorado River are considered Arizona waterways.

There is no title on a boat, just the registration. and I believe if it is already has an AZ # you can transfer the registration without a visit to the fish cops, give them a call or check the web page.

However, the trailer must be titled in California if you're a resident of California.  And you'll need to do that (transfer the trailer title) through the DMV.

That's just how I understand it.  It would be worth your while to give the AZ Game and Fish a call.   :phone  :good

Good luck with keeping the AZ registration.  Without a street address, it might be tough to get done.   :eek

The Cali DMV Nazi's say it belongs to them since you live in Cali.  If it's stored for more that 45 days in the state, they will get you for the Personal Property taxes at least.  :angry

Cali stickers are $10 for two years on my 2000 "POS" Yami and my trailer is "permanent"; never pay fees again.

Insurance is around $400/year for the $15k boat, full liability, etc.   :cool

Of course, that's my situation; again, good luck with the new boat... :good

Nope not a problem, the boat sits on the trailer not on the road, the trailer does!. I've always had my boat registered in AZ since the 70's when I lived in CA. All you have to do is put down on the paperwork is that it's used mainly in AZ and nobody can say anything to you on CA waters because they can't prove you don't use it on AZ water!..If you live in CA the trailer has to be registered in CA because it goes down the road!. :)

Both my boat and trailer are AZ registered. You don't need an AZ address. And it can all be done through the mail. It's perfectly legal. No scheming necessary.

If its principally used outside of California the boat can keep the out of state registration. Keep a box full of gas receipts.

As for the trailer...my buddy's boat has AZ numbers but he was also told that he should register the trailer in CA, so he did.
Well one day the Sheriff questioned him about the boat registration (we were in CA) because they said it looked to them like he was avoiding paying taxes.......then they asked where I lived and why didn't I have CF numbers.
Simple. I told them that the boat is primarily used in AZ waters...and it lives on the trailer out by the river. Since the boat and trailer were AZ he didn't say a word.

They don't make a heck of alot on the one-time permenant trailer fees so I guess it gets little attention.

Of course, if I used the boat in California more than just a few times, I'd register it in California!

:peace
